LG4 CHIP UPGRADE!!
I have an 86 LG4 Camaro with a stock computer chip and the following upgrades.
1. Std. bore dished piston 350 shortblock
2. 416 casting 305 heads
3. 214/224 dur. 460 lift cam flat tappet
4. Performer intake
5. CC Q-Jet
6. Shorty headers
5. Hooker cat back
6. 2800 stall convert
7. 700r4
8. 4.10 gears
Do I need to change the stock chip? Will going to an aftermarket chip give me any HP upgrades? Car runs & drives perfect right now. I took it to the track and ran a 12.64 @ 106.34. Any info would be great.
Thanks Frank

Sounds like it's doing pretty good to me!!!!
A chip would change the timing curve, that's about it. You can manipulate that with base timing.
I'd say leave well enough alone.

Very nice. I had a VERY similarly spec'ed out car (but with a Holley and standard HEI on the engine- no computer controls) that ran a best of 13.5@105 on a biffed run. I'm sure it could have gone 13.3 easy but I ran out of time at the track. My stock stall converter and worn-out 200K mile trans (count: one-Mississippi, two-Mississippi, SHIFT!) were the only things left really holding it back. But I doubt my car could have run a 12.6, though, even with a good stall and sharp-shifting trans.
While a chip upgrade would normally be a commonly recommended upgrade I think you're running just fine with what you got. Most of the timing curve crap happens below 3000 anyway when you're running wide open, just barely above your current stall speed. I would assume you've already played with the intial base timing until you got your best ET. If that's the case, I doubt a chip change is going to do much for your combo, at least not at WOT. Might be a little more drivable around town/part throttle, though.
That's thing's running real strong for a mild computer controlled carb 350 setup.

I have a functional .XDF file and a few different BINs if you become interested in tuning your own prom chips for the CCC Q-Jet. The XDF should work to modify most of them, but I believe the only years that used the 2732A (easily replaced with a flash chip via a Moates G2 adapter) are 1987-1990. Luckily from what I have seen the Monte Carlo SS is wired the same way as the F-body and used the later ECM through 1988. They even used a knock sensor like the later LG4s.
Short of tuning it, I have looked at the 1988 Monte Carlo SS (L69 305) calibration and the spark advance rate and curve is much hotter than the old LG4s. The GM ZZ4 prom is another step above that.
