Setting up Electric Choke??

Hey all, OSS here;
I need some answers like in 30 mins, becuase I'm going to the garage to figure it out.

I installed my electric choke, but it doesnt really work, it KIND of works, but not to what it's ment for.

I know that in the choke diaphram has like a little tab inside of it, so the coil can latch onto it, but how many times am I supposed to wind it up? which direction? I turned it like 5 times clockwise

Thanks in advance, I tried to ask my website, but so far no luck

I know, but I just dont like things that dont work on my car. Even though I dont *need* a choke, I would like it to work.

LOL which carb are you working with? Assuming is a Qjet, if you wound it up 5 times, your choke tstat is probably garbage now. The choke tstat coil will have a loop at the end that slips over the peg in the choke housing, the housing is keyed so the tstat will only fit one way, about 1/8 turn clockwise. It's pretty much idiot proof.

I shouldnt say I wound it up 5 times, but probably 1 full rotation.

On Q-jet you don't wind it up you just slip it on over the tang, ****, post whatever you want to call it. Then just line up the arrow with the marks on the housing. The square thing on the front of the black cover should be somewhat straight up and down to begin with then adjust it from there to make sure the choke opens up all the way. The choke closes mechanically, the thermostat cover thing is to open it back up when it is warm enough.

Ah, things are starting to make sence now, Yes, it is a Q-jet, I should have specified in the first place. So all I need to do, is unwind it, then simply slip it on, without winding it up?

Perhaps in Maui. Sault Ste Marie is a different story entirely.

57 beat me to it. It must be nice to have it 30*+ all the time (in celsius...)
Up here in realityville, it's a different story. It's -40* here, and a choke, and block heater, is NEEDED. (-40* is the same in celsius and farhenheit)

OSS - look up my name, and "choke", in the carb forum, you should find a few threads that i've made on how to set it up. Yea, just put it on, then wind it such that it *just barely* closes the choke flap. This is with the motor dead cold (no problems there eh? ). It'll probably have the "blade" almost parallel to the ground, maybe a bit CCW.
