Carter AVS

The drag car I bought has a Carter 6125 S model carb. I looked this up and saw that is a factory Chrysler carb. for a 71 model, 383, automatic car. I cant seem to find any information concerning specifications of it and was wondering if I should keep it and use it or go with a holley.

This will be a mainly strip car but want to make it street legal...73 camaro.

Thanks!
Mike

The Carter AVS is pretty much a Carter AFB with a spring-loaded secondary air valve instead of the AFB's counterweighted setup. Edelbrock is selling their version of the AFB now as the "Performer" series, and their version of the AVS as the "Thunder" series.

Correct, its on a second gen with a 355.

Thanks for that info Apeiron, I appreciate that. I cant find a cfm rating on this carb anywhere and didnt realize the bolt flange was the same...hmmm.

If you found a rating it might not mean much. Back in the old days carburetors were rarely flow-rated, and when they were it was hardly standardized. If you thought you needed more flow, you put on a second carb.
