Best Carburetor for 350/383? (Interchange)

I have a 78' Chevy Malibu with a 350L Motor, and I need a Carburetor because mine is not functioning properly.

I am going to buy a 383 Stroker(500hp) at the beginning of next year, so I was looking forward to buying a Holley Carb 650 or 670. But can that take the power?

What will be the best Carb to buy to handle the 350L & 383 Stroker, and also put out good gas mileage?

Thanks!

P.S: I was looking at the Holley Carb 750 but was told that drinks too much gas.

i had a 750 double pumper on my old 350 (.060" over, 238*/248* @ .050 10.4:1 c/r) with a 700r4 and lockup converter and 4.10's w/ a 28" tall tire. car went 12.1's @ 110+mph (never manged to make a full pass with proper tuning, should have run 11.8's) and made 22mpg on the highway. intown, i managed 15mpg if i kept my foot out of it.

well, if you get a double pumper it will be a 4150 style and will be part number 4779-x (x being a variable number that changes from carb to carb, but they are all the same)

there is also the HP750 from holley, i don't remember it's p/n off the top of my head, but it's got a smoothed main body and some other high performance goodies.

then there are companies that take the holley carb design and enhance it, like Pro-Form, QuickFuel, AED Performance, and others. these are all really nice carbs but are more geared towards racing.

I love my quickfuel 750. Based off the Holley, has mechanical secondaries and a proform main body and looks really good to boot.

We run a AED 750 HO on our 383. I have installed over 20 Aed's on motors I have built......50% of these motors were supercharged............AED only way to go.

I have to agree here, those street avenger carbs are garbage. i helped a friend EVERY time he had his car out cause i never wanted to run right. your best bet was a 650 DP(maybe even a 750 vacuum secondaries) and work that over.

I have a 650 DP on my set up, i blocked the power valve off, run 74 main jets and 82 secondaries. I ran a best of 15.4 at 93 WITHOUT rejetting the carb and on MT Indy Profiles with a STOCK open rear end.

Now with it re-jetted and with a posi 4.10, it feels like a NEW car, and i cant wait to track the new setup

Ok. I am not tuning my car at the moment, the carb in my car wasn't working at all so i bought a Street Avenger 670 because I was told it gives great gas mileage for my needs at the moment. When i buy my 383 Stroker and im ready to tune my car etc, i will then buy a 750..

A 670 Street Avenger is good for a stock 350 correct? I talked to a holley customer service helper and was told 750 is NOT good on a bone stock 350 motor, will give lots of problems since its not in my power range im not tuning my car at moment.

a double pumper will work just as good if not better as long as you keep your foot out of the secondaries as far as gas mileage is concerned and it will give you much crisper throttle response and better power. i would have gone with a 650 double pumper. if you look in my post above i managed 15/22 mpg with my 750 double pumper on a stout 350! you're not gonna get much better than that with your street avenger, i promise you that.
