Edelbrock 1406 - Dual Snorkel/Open element?

Alright, I've done the search, read a lot of opinions, but that gets old. I just switched from the Q-Jet to the Edelbrock and I have hood clearance problems with the dual snorkel air cleaner.

I hate being forced by a new part to change things up. Is there a way to make things fit? I used the spacer with the carb, so that's where the hood contact comes in. I just like the look of the dual snorkel and I've cut into the car for a homemade cold air system...BRUTAL!

If not, what do I go to? Open element? I have a friend bringing in a single snorkel air cleaner - I'm pretty sure I won't like that under the hood. Ideas?

Change the intake so you don't need the spacer.

WOW! What a difference this carb makes...my car now holds idle right around 500 and once it hits 2000, I'm gone. Incredible. The difference is like night and day.

The temporary filter is open element, but I don't like the way it looks on my engine. I guess it's the cruise linkage that causes problems with the dual snorkel...haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but I think I'll look for a way. After the long weekend tho.

Cheers.
