bone to pick with Weiand
well i bought a weiand action plus+ intake manifold a while back and just now got around to installing it, i made sure it would fit, was for a small block with no EGR provision, etc..
well i get it, it looks good, didnt come with any gaskets or anything, thats fine though, i wasnt expecting it to but it wouldve been nice
i take my old intake manifold off, start transferring the carb and everything to the new weiand intake manifold, first thing i notice is that i have a coolant fitting that runs to my heater core, right next to it (on the stock manifold) is another temp sensor thing for the evap system, i look on the weiand theres only 1 spot for the big coolant fitting and no spot for the evap sensor
i say okay, i can just get rid of that but i wasnt really planning on it but ill toss it anyway since im gonna get raped at the pump anyway, whats a little more wasted fuel...
theres another hole on the other side of the manifold the same size as the coolant fitting, so i have to get a plug for that since theres nothing there...
all that stuff i can live with, its not that bad, but the thing that really bugs me is that every threaded hole is TOO SHALLOW! the carb bolt holes, the distributor bolt hole, all of them about a 1/4" too shallow! i had to cut 2 of the bolts for the carb and get 2 new bolts for the other 2 holes, just to get them to fit. i had to use an unused bolt left over from removing the air pump that was alot smaller for the distributor
its not that bad but it would be nice to use the original bolts and not have to modify or go looking for new bolts when trying to get the stuff back on..
overall it looks like a good manifold and will probably perform well, but if your looking to get one be prepared to find some non-stock bolts to get everything to bolt up tight!

Yeah, unfortunately that's nothing really unusual. I think the factory makes sure they have PLENTY of depth to the bolt holes, where the aftermarket often gives you "just engough." I've run into this with Edelbrock manfiolds, too. I end up lopping about 1/4" of threads off of them sometimes.
You mention that you have an extra coolant fitting on the manfiold you need to plug..... why not put the vacuum switch that you DIDN'T have a fitting for on the other side of the manifold in there (and extend the vacuum lines over to it)?
