Fuel Issues with 4 Barrel Edelbrock
I have almost completed a v6 to v8 conversion in my 1991 firebird. we now have the engine in the car and everything seems to be going good. here's the issue. we have talked to many people and recieved advice from people on the msg board to put a fuel regulator on instead of dropping a new pump in the tank. here in lies the problem. it seems as if the regulator brings fuel into the carb and then does not keep the pressure continually while the engine is running. eventually the engine runs out of fuel and then just sputters and dies. the regulator i am using is a AeroMotive regulator. you can find it on www.summitracing.com part number 13301. the carb i am using is an edelbrock 1407 which is 700cfm 4 barrell. any input to why it would be doing this and how to fix it would be great.

good news! the problem happened to be that the fuel pump was turing off just like people said. we fixed the problem by finding the fuel pump test lead that was on the driver side of the car by the power brake unit. we then wired that to the power on the ignition relay which would only turn on the pump when the ignition was turned on. thanks for the advice. all works well now.

as a side question....how do you like your 350 with that 750 edelbrock?
i have a vortec 355 and right now i just have the stock q-jet...but i bought a 1407 carb and am waiting for the rest of the parts to do the swap.....does the 750 seem to be too much cfm or does it run good?

The 750 on a 355 isn't really too big, but it won't do anything for you that the stock Q-jet can't.

So far i really like the edelbrock. i have heard from a few people that the QJ have problems. the edelbrock is easy to adjust and fairly simple to install and work with. we also installed an electronic choke with no problem. so far so good. i really wont know until i start racing at the strip this summer.

what exactly do you need. like where to connect the wires or like putting the whole thing together. if you need all of the directions i could probably scan them and email them too you. that would probably be better than trying to type it all in here. i beleive its all the same with the performer series carbs

Connect the factory choke wire to the positive terminal on the choke housing. Connect the negative terminal on the choke housing to a convenient ground.

I went from the 1406 (600cfm) to the 1407 (750cfm) and I gained 3 mph through the traps after I got the thing dialed in right
