Don't use facet/purolator universal inline fuel pumps!
Many of you already know the cheap 30dolla-parts-store-inline-fuel pumps are junk, I just wanted to make a fresh post and maybe catch a few new guys before they make the same mistake I did. I'm running a '91 TBI motor converted to a carb. in the orange el camino so I have to use an electric pump. The gas tank is a standard pickup/blazer from '79. The first "parts store pump" lasted about 8,000 miles (this was the purolator). The second pump lasted about two weeks(facet brand). I rechecked my wiring and thought there might be some moisture building up in the pump so I brought it inside to melt out any ice, still no go. They are just a bad design. They might work longer with a return line type regulator, I think the problem lies in the basic design though. I'm going to try and return the second pump since it's only been on for a couple of weeks now.
I just ordered a carter inline pump set at 5-7psi as was reccommended by several people on this site. The "free-flow" design of the carter should last a lot longer and at 60bucks, the price isn't too bad either.

You mean your trying to feed a v-8 with just that little pump???
It specs as 4-7 psi, 35 gal. per hour (GPH)
Thats about enough fuel flow for a stock import 4 cyl. maybe.
I do run one though, but only as a "helper" pump for my mech. pump
I have a block mounted mech. pump (replacement for 70-71 camaro LT1 370 hp) It flows 100-105 GHP at 6-8 psi and it's a return style pump.
Then I have the purolator PRO 12SV back in the rear where the stock fuel filter was on my 88 camaro.
Here's some pics of mine....

I have the purolator elec. pump wired with a throttle micro switch so it cuts on at about 70-75% throttle and only stays on when im at or above 70-75% throttle.
Then the rest of my fuel system is alum. 3/8" supply line the block mount 70-71 camaro LT1 mech. pump, then 3/8" alum line to a inner fender mounted holley adjustable pressure reg (pressure set to 5.3 psi for my edelbrock 600 cfm) ., then 3/8" alum line from AFPR to a fram plastic bell shaped fuel filter, then 3/8" alum line to carb.
3/8" alum line from return port on block mount pump, to the factory return line (5/16" I think)

If you're going to use ANY low pressure electric pump to feed a carb you should ONLY use it as a helper for a block-mounted mechanical. With the weight of the fuel in the lines under the g-forces of acceleration and braking it WON'T hold constant pressure up at the carb. Trust me, I've done it with a gague hooked up and duck-taped to the windshield several times. It'll fluctuate by several PSI at the carb inlet even in a relatively slow street car.
Best combo I have found for a street car is a combination of a low-pressure electric back by the tank (Carter 5 PSI or Holley "Red" 7 PSI- the Holley is a lot quieter than the Carter, BTW) along with the mechanical high flow pump of your choice up on the engine. I like the Carter mechanical pumps, but just about anything will work.
The combination of these two pumps will hold ROCK SOLID fuel pressure under all conditions (+- half a PSI) and I've run these setups on nitroused small blocks past 500 HP without any pressure fall-off at WOT.
