edelbrock guys got a ?
I happen to find this site and want to know what your thoughts are on the edelbrock 750cfm being junk.After reading the post and thinking about how my engine runs I think they maybe right.Check it out http://www.centuryperformance.com/fo...63&whichpage=1 What do you think?

I've seen a grand total of one car that was faster with an Edelbrock than with a Holley/Demon. I don't know which Edelbrock he was using, but I do know he didn't know and wasn't much interested in learning how to tune the Demon he tried "because everybody told me it would be faster", and pulled it off after one night of T&T when all he did was "T" with no "&T". Hardly what I would call a fair or objective trial.
Personally, I've never owned an Edelbrock or AFB. Personally, I'm not interested in trying one because I'm really not in the portion of the market after which they're going.

I'm old school and love AFB's. But let me put that into context. I love them on the street because they are pretty much a tune and forget carb. They don't leak, they're simple, maybe I'm just getting too old.
That being said, they'll never outrun a Holey or especially a BG, and are not nearly as tuneable. If I had another race car it would be with a BG.

I dont want this to be a edelbrock VS. holley tread.Im more curious about the 750 a being crap design and not working well VS. the 600 having better allaround performance.

To say that an edelbrock can never outrun a holley is . Compare apples to apples. Holley VS against an edelbrock. I will take the edelbrock anyday of the week. DP holleys are another story though, they have thier place.

AFB's are a lot like an AK47, a little old, maybe a little crude, but you can leave then out in the rain overnight, and they'll still work in the morning. (I've experienced this when the car cover blew off of my tunnel ram)
The new series takes care of the secondary adjustment. I haven't seen a functioning thermoquad on anything since a restoration since about 1980.
The old Carter competition series AFB would give a Holley a run for it's money, at about 2/3 the cost. I don't know if Edelbrock still carries something like that.

I have had my 1411 for 8 or 9 years all I have done is adjust the idle a time or two and spayed it out with cleaner a few times about the best carb I have ever used for street use although the secondaries do seem a little odd from time to time but that is probably cause 750 is a lil big for my engine

Part of perceived problem with the Edel 750 might be:
primaries that are too big.
edit, adding......
I think what was done...
to turn a 600 into a 750, make the primaries bigger.
{the secondaries are maxed out, for the casting}

I have the same problem sometimes it feels like the secondarys dont kick in and when they do you could definitely feel it.If you read the post in the link I posted they take about the 750 having poor signal I think it might be true.

The Quadrajet runs better on my 355 than the edelbrock did. I like the Q-jet better than the holley when it is tuned right. Some Q-jets flow 800 cfm.

I cant comment on the 750 eddy., But I do have a 600 cfm on mine, been running 600 cfm AFB's and edelbrocks for years. I wouldnt run any other type carb.
A carb aint a wild, race type part. Every carb on the market now, 50 years ago, and 30 years from now, etc does the same thing.
it's an air/fuel mixer to make it simply. The key to any carb is dialing it in for you combo.
In tests I done myself, and tests I read. You WILL NOT pick up or loose more than 5 HP between any style 4 bbl carb on the market, when its tuned for that engine.
I trap at 118 mph in a all steel 88 camaro with a 355 and 40+ year old GM iron heads and rest of engine is pretty mild combo. The biggest/baddest things in my combo is 10.18:1 compression, 2800 stall, th-400 trans, and a powertrax locker
(12.80's-12.90's due to traction probs) 118 mph shows the power to run 11.40's with traction.
I do that with a 600 cfm edelbrock p/n 1405
I put a holley 4160 hp dp on my car, tuned it for 3 days at home, and 14 passes, never ran any faster than 118.3 mph (I gained .3 mph over my 600 edelbrock)
In the 1st handfull of passes with the holley I was on ALOT, 113 mph.
Now I will say I got about 7 hours of tuning put into my edelbrock. Out of the box, I trapped at 115 mph. After the 7 hours of tuning, I picked up 3 MPH and gained ALOT of throttle responce, mid range power, and my fuel mileage went up through the roof.
Out of the box my avg. fuel mileage was a ****ty 10-11 mpg, after my tuning i'm up to alittle over 14 mpg
