bowl vent???
I came across a quad that is like brand new, and I'm sure that it would be perfect for my combo, but it's different than the normal quads. The reason is that the bowl vent is a large tube that sits infront of the carb, (not right in front of the primaries like normal, but at the front of the carb, on top). The air cleaner doesn't fit, but I was wondering if I could just drill a hole in the base of the air cleaner, and put a grommet in there, and just have the vent inside the air cleaner.
Would this work?
All other quads that I have seen have the bowl vent inside the air cleaner, right in front of the primaries, (where the choke is).
I was told that it might be off of a truck, and that vent tube would go to the charcoal canister.

Ok, after finding a site that can "decode" the #'s, I found that the carb is from a 1975 Pontiac with a manual trans, and 49 state emissions.
Still looking to see how it was mounted though.

I'd try and find out what kind of air cleaner was on top of one of those, and see how it worked with that carb.

I tried using a Pontiac Qjet on a Chevy. It wasn't one like that, but I thought I should bring to your attention that there's also an interference issue with the fuel inlet hitting the thermostat housing.
Your grommet idea sounds like it ought to work tho.

didn't think about that. It does have a straight fuel inlet. Maybe I should just go with a Holley. I've got a couple of them. 4160, 600 cfm vac. sec.

There are fittings you can get that will allow you to run your fuel linlet from the side like a Chevy Q-Jet on a front inlet Q-Jet like yours which should solve any interference issues. I would give you a link but I just lost all of my bookmarks. Carbs Unlimited or something? But if you have Holleys sitting around it might be less trouble to just freshen one of them up and use it.

If it's a Pontiac carb you better be sure your throttle/kickdown cables will work with it, too. If it's something from the 70s and you have a 3rd gen with a 700R4 automatic trans then the location of the kickdown stud on the carb is not going to work well with the 700R-4's TV cable. It might hook up, but the geometry is wrong.

Actually, it's for my '73 Nova. But i'm using the 350 that I built for my '82 T/A. which came out of a '77 Impala station wagon.
