why the holley 20-95 ?

Hi folks,

just finished swapping my CC Qjet and dissy with a Holley Steet Avenger and edelbrock performer manifold on my 86 TA with 700R4 auto (once you have to keep paying $100's per sensor on a 18yo car in Australia you'll understand the move to easily/cheaply maintained non CC stuff).

Question is - I have also bought the 20-95 bracket everyone says you HAVE to use to mount the throttle cable and TV cable so they can be adjusted right - but do I really need to use it ? My stock chev bracket still mounts up fine to my performer manifold (and it has a mounting point for my cruise control cable).

The 20-95 seems to sit the TV cable only a half inch or so further back - is that really why I have to use the 20-95 instead of my chev bracket - can't the TV cable be adjusted correctly with the Chev bracket ?

I just want to make sure if I can still use the original or will I kill my trannie if I do ?

cheers

The correct TV geometry is essential to the proper operation and longetivity of the transmission. If yours looks like this, then you should be fine:

The Holley 20-95 bracket is a piece of junk. You will find that the spacing for the throttle cable mounting and tranny cable mounting are different than the factory cable....and will not work correctly.

The factory bracket, as you have discovered, will bolt up fine to your manifold and will give you the correct geometry to operate your tranny. I ( and several others on this forum ) have used them for years with Holley's.

Hook it up as shown below and it will be just dandy. Note stud on lower lever for TV cable to attach. My car is now a 5 speed...but previously had a 700R4.

Edit: Reduce picture size

Chickenman is right! You dont need the bracket its total
The cable doesent know its not being pulled at a certain angle, it just a freaking cable. It doesent care whats pulling on it just that its pulled to a certain pressure to operate and is adjusted to max at WOT. Use your factory bracket adjust the cable and be done with it.

The biggest issue is the pivot radius, as Apeiron's pic illustrates.

i am a big fan of this bracket made by Philadelphia Racing Products, they are the manufacturers of the JEG'S brand brackets too.
