Fiberglass a/c delete heater box?

Is there any intrest in such a product?
It would come with some weather stripping, hardware, and sanded smooth ready for paint.
I'm thinking around $120 for the kit. Anybody interested? If there is enough interest maybe I'll start a group purchase.
2 versions could be made. One would be the exact replica of the old heater only boxes that would require the shorter blower fan. Another version would be ready for the a/c blower fan assembly ready to bolt in.
Just guaging interest so please post your opinions.

You wouldent beleive how long it took me to find a non ac heater box when I had the Camaro, I would have gladly paid that much for one. I think there is a market for it just not for me any more.

I think you would definatley get some takers on this product. Another suggestion is to make one without the blower hole cut or maybe just a flat panel to cover the hole that is in the firewall for those of us that are removing the heater an AC all together. I noticed that BMR is making flat panels like that for the G-Body cars. I emailed them to see if they are making them for our cars and they said no, but would consider it for research and development. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, actually I can make it out of carbon fiber. Algie composites is a sponsor for our formula team so I'm sure I could make them out of cf, only question is, how many thirdgen owners need or even want a carbon fiber box? The cost would be at LEAST $250 for the cf, if there is a taker I'll do it, if not, I'll stick with fiberglass.
We were going to do some vacuum forming plastic but then I couldn't find any plastic that would handle around 250 degrees or more. Most only went up into the mid to upper 100's.
As for the block off plate, consider it done. I can spit those out in cf for $75, aluminum would probably cost $60 after I get the shape waterjet cut.
I'm glad to here there is a market for this. I too found a metal delete box through a friend (NJSpeeder). I still had to modify the blower fan though! That's what this kit will eliminate.

Dang it you took my idea. I just thought of making glass heater boxes about 2 weeks ago when I saw they continually go for over 100 bucks even with rust + I have a good one from Dave sitting in my room still. How heavy is the blower motor anyways?

Carbon fiber has always seemed like a r&cer thing to me, I doubt I will ever understand it. I would be interested in the normal fiberglass unit, but could it be made to smaller specs, possibly using a different blower motor. I think this would be more useful for accessing the rear plugs.

So be it, they will be produced. I'll build a few and take pictures. Keep in mind since I AM in school I can only do batchs to make this worth my while. I'll do 4 at a time so keep that in mind. I doubt there will be any problem getting 4 people to "sign up" and remember, I can do a bunch of different models. The fiberglass with or without the ac blower fan, carbon fiber of the same but again, that's $$ so I'll need the money up front. Those I can do 1 at a time. Then there will be block-off plates, aluminum and CF. I'll post again with final prices after I talk to the guy over at Algie composites. From what I've heard through some team mates, he's getting out of racing and doing more 1 off government projects. This is good since he won't be doing as much repair work and instead spending more time with designs and molds which SHOULD free up the autoclave enough to let me make a few goodies.
Please PLEASE don't tell me carbon fiber and then back down. I can promis you this, that you won't be disapointed with the appearance. It'll be seamless across the front and top with a little overlap on bottom which is hidden.

OMG, Yes, for sure would I like to get my hands on one of those. Better yet, please e-mail me with product info, I will buy one for sure. I removed my A/C and heater, now I am trying to fab a sheet metal cover for them nasty holes that sit gaping in the open. I would just like a plan black cover for where I removed the a/c and heater, you know just to cover them holes..

Please e-mail me and let me know!

Any word on this topic? I was wanting an exact replica but after much thought I think I would be more interested in one that uses the AC blower.

Just wondering where you are at on this. I plan on making my own out of 1/8th inch steel sheating this summer if I don't have anything else by then.
