Edelbrock tech support.
Do these guys get back with you soon? Here is what i sent them, if any of you can help it would be great.
To whom it may concern,
I have a few question for you. I bought a edelbrock 600 CFM carb. #1406. I put this on my 84 camaro that has a 355 (i put this motor in) also the carb is strapped to a Edelbrock performer carb. The carb is now in stock form. Here is my problem. When i go slightly past half throttle (there is a "notch" in the peddle, that i have to press a little hard to keep the peddle going down)...its normal but a notch is the only way i can describe it. Anways, when i hold the throttle at the point the motor starts to sound wierd and i have no power, if i go WOT, it goes away. BUT right now when i got WOT i have a bad popping from the exhaust, which i assume is unburnt fuel. Can i just change the metering rods and springs to a leaner one to fix this? What would cause the hesitation? The motor has about 1K miles on it or so. When i first got the car running, i had 0 bog/hesitation or popping with the carb is 100% stock form. So could it be just plugs/wires? I have also leaned the carb out by rejetting it to a leaner step (i bought your rejetting kit), the car ran ok (less power) but it still had that hesitation. I recently decided to put it back to stock form. Thats when the popping started. Thats why im confused because the carb was in stock form when i first got the car running and it was ok. Do you think it could just be the wires/plugs? Thanks, i hope i didnt confuse you, i rambled a bit.

Ensureing the igniton system is up to snuff is the first order of business before jumping in to the carb calibration.
Often carb problems are actually ignition related.
In fact, very often.
