i am getting remanufactured cc q jet carb, pep boys dont have the holley reman and i went to auto zone and its 100$ more, but they have a champion for the same price, 269$, cc q-jet,

my question has any one bought tis before, is this company any good for a carb, ive never heard of them?

i just want my car to run good, and faster, my carb is original and never rebuilt, i need a new one or mine rebuilt, i fugure 269$ aint bad, i bought a better secondary rod and rod hanger upon hearing good things about it from a buddy, opens secondarys sooner and better im told, 20$ and ill find out, hehehehehe.

I am going through this right now. I have gone to all the AZ in the area with my big Delco book looking at the in stock carbs, crossing the numbers to find the original app. The carb I looking for is for a 72 350 which is an 3-87a or a 3-609 (truck). Of all the carbs I looked at the original applications were wildly across the board. There was even a V-6 application in a 3-87a box, IIRRC.

So I got a 3-609 cause I like the way the spring works with the linkage better and out of the box it had leaks and flooded at idle... return. The next worked ok for non performance apps (except idle) and I ripped it apart to check the internals... they dont use original jets, rods or idle screws. They also cut off the APT shaft at the bottom of the power valve. The replacement parts they use are junk and made of soft brass. This one smoked at idle and I worked on it for two weekends, got it working very well everywhere except idle before I took it back. The next carb came out of the box with bent linkage and other defects... back it went. The latest carb is looking better. Clean linkage, solid core but we will see today sometime.

I have looked at 10 of their rebuilds so far. It may be that I just saw the worst cases... but even the counter man said he put 3 on his wifes mustang before he got a working one.

So I think they are crap. Maybe the CC carbs are better.

OTOH, They are ok if you need a core to rebuild because they have been straightened, bushed and cleaned pretty well but you will have to go through it and fix up the imperfections. Make sure the numbers match an original application and you are willing to invest the time.

that was for champion carb

the champion carb is what you are talking about right?

i need a stock replacement and i want it to work and have good parts, this is going on my car and all i want to do to it is adjust it to run well, i guessing holley is good but i cant get it yet.

what to do?
this does have to be the cc carb.

It a 50/50 shot. at least you can take it back if it is crap.. I've never seen a Holley rebuild so I cant comment.

One other thing about champion is they bead blast everyting and dont replate. the carb will be rusty and nasty in short order.

thats good to know thanks for telling me...

this help alot, i dont want crap like that, do you or does any one else know of a good stock carb replacment, i have gone to pep boys and auto zone, i need to go to orileys today and check what they have,

this to me seems like my best option(replacing the carb, its old and needs rebuilding or replacement) but if what other things can i do, i considered getting a edelbrock but id have to get a whole other amount of money for the distrib and gas mileage would be worse with that carb i have heard,

can any one tell me what my options are, if i havent mentioned it?

If that is the original carb then your best bet is to rebuild it.

i will have my original carb rebuilt for 125$ so i dont feel the need to go get a pile of crap, from opinions expressed here, and waste my $

thanks guys

i would love to hear reasons not to go to auto zoo, they have been falling out of my graces lately, im going to orileys and pep boys, not to mention my local speed shop

does napa have all the ac delco parts i need for my camaro? or what ever part is stock?
