Car: 86 LG4 & 92 TBI Firebird
Engine: The Mighty 305!
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.42
Edelbrock p/n 1960. Just take out the torx screw on the top of the carb that holds the hanger down, hang the metering rods off the hanger holes, install the new hanger.

What letters are stamped on your secondary rods right now? They might be jsut fine as is, or they could be "emissions dogs".

Im pretty sure nothing has been changed in the carb. I plan on installing ck rods/ b hangers along with my K&N, Transgo shift kit, Headman headers/ Y-pipe and a MSD timing adjustment kit.

My car by the way is a 87 Camaro LG4 Auto if that helps.

If you're using the original computer-controlled distributor, that kit will not work. If you want to upgrade your ignition system, I would recommend getting a better ignition control module. Accel makes some pretty good ones, I've been using their 7-pin module(#35363) for a year and a half without any problems. The benefit that I noticed from it is that the engine runs smoother at higher rpms (3500+). Before you buy one, pull off your distributor cap and count the number of pins your module has to be sure you get the correct one. You can also get a stronger coil, but in most cases you have to buy more expensive wires for it to work and in my opinion may not be worth it.

My advice is to get a better ignition control module, get a coil and good wires if you have money to throw around, do a tune-up on your cap, rotor, and plugs, and then leave the rest of your ignition alone. With the computer control, there's really not any fine tuning you can do to it.

How can I tell if it is a cc carb? There is no connector to hook a scanner up to the computer and no o2 sensor in the y-pipe. Im used to fuel injection and dont know nothing about carbs but im learning.

Can I switch my coil in cap to an external mount coil? How hard is it?

This thread addresses the ccc carb issue. There's a pic of a computer controlled carb near the bottom.

Why would you want to switch coil types?

So the canadain cars are non- cc. Now how about the HEI is it the same as in the TPI cars but with vaccum advance? I just like the way the external coil looks it is nothing more than a preference.

As far as I know the TPI distributors are smaller with an external coil and use different control modules, but my knowledge of them is limited. CCC HEI distributors do not use vacuum advance, one reason why the kit you mentioned won't work. The ECM uses the MAP sensor and other inputs to determine the amount of advance. I think that converting would be more trouble than it would be worth just for looks (assuming it can be done).

So what controls the timing on my non-cc distributer. Is it mechanical and vaccum advance. It has a vaccum canister on the ditributer.

It's ok, I don't have much experience with non-cc carbs and distributors though so I can't be of too much more help.
