there will never be a run out of the box carb. tuning is gonna always be required.

I know tuning is required for best performance. To make a long story short Im having a problem with the wiring in my car and it wont start.I need my car for work and cant waste any more time messing with the wiring. So Im switching to a carb for now. Will either carb be close enough to letting me just bolting it on and driving?

Either Edlebrock carb will work on the engine,
but you'll need another distributor, fuel pump, throttle cable/bracket, etc.... not such a quick swap.
It may be easier to just fix the problem.
what are the symptoms?

Yah I know its not that easy but Im running out of time here. The problem is weak spark.I can't get spark at the plugs if I take a spark tester and put at the end of a wire it wont jump the gap.If I take the wire off the cap and hook up the tester to the cap it will jump the gap but not with the wires hooked up.I changed the cap, rotor, plugs, ignition module, coil, wires, pick up coil, battery, ecm even got another distributor from the scrap yard and still the same thing.I checked all the wires going to the distributor for grounds and their getting the right voltages. There is nothing left to check that I can think of or find in any books. Also I all ready have most of the parts for the swap just need the carb and manifold.

I run a Jet Performance modified Quadrajet on my 355 and it ran great out of the box, but it wasn't specifically an "out of the box" carb either - I gave them all my engine specs (Cam, compression ratio, ignition, type of intake, headers etc.) and they set it up for me. Never had a Q-jet that responsive.

Edelbrock. They took all the fun out of tuning! My 800 cfm was dead on. After trying all sorts of tuning, my brother went back to the stock caliberation on his 750 cfm Performer. Nice carbs. I can't say I've had experience with any others though.

Thanks for the reply's I really want to go with the edelbrock because I dont want to drop alot of coin and most people say the engine will run with the edelbrock out of the box.Im doing the swap next weekend and If the car dosent run on that monday Im screwed big time.I guess Ill go with the 750cm since Im running a 383.
