Flaring Fuel Lines

what flare tool do i use for 1/2" lines using AN fittings. the salesman at jegs told me "just use a standard 37* flare tool". well here is my problem.......45* is a common flare and i can't find anyone who has even heard of a 37*. was he blowin smoke up my @$$ or was he just an idiot? can't run my new fuel lines until i get this figured out so any answers asap would be great.

There is such thing as a 37 degree flare tool, not at all common or standard.I used to have a number to a company that sold the 37 flare kits to use for AN fittings but over the years lost it,got it from and old CHP mag.I will look around for it tonight for ya..maybe I can find it again. It was around $100 for the kit,I just went with all braided in my Z to avoid buying this tool.Did you ask the guy at Jegs if they sold that style flaring tool? Its an idea.

Look in aircraft magazines for companies that sell those tools. Go hang out at your local general aviation airport and look around in their waiting room, or go out and talk to the A&P guys in the hangars there.

The way most of us deal with that, is to buy an adapter fitting from Aeorquip or Earl's or wherever. Put a "common" flare on the line and use a "common" to AN adapter.
