Tuning cc Qjet after engine rebuild.

In about two weeks, my presently stock LG4 will inherit a Comp Cams XE-249H-12 cam, a rebuilt set of heads with 1.94/1.50 valves and 58cc combustion chambers, and a set of Flowtech shorty headers. I have already added a dual snorkel air cleaner. The rating on the cam is .434"/.444" lift and duration is, I believe, 206/212. Lobe separation is 112. With the added intake volume capability, I would only assume the engine will need to have more fuel, right? My question then, is will the adjustments be minor enough that the computer will be able to compensate, or will I need to change metering rods and hangers? If so, what would be some suggested part numbers, where is a good place to get them, and how much should they cost? Also, does anybody think there will be any major calibrations that have to be made on the carb? I know it's hard to tell without actually seeing how the motor runs first, but I'm just trying to catch as many potential problems as possible beforehand. I'm not really good at knowing what to tune on these carbs, but if I know what needs adjusted, I can handle that. Any insight would be much appreciated.

The computer will be able to compensate at idle and part throttle. For WOT you might want to put in some richer rods/hanger on the secondary side, however.

My "go-to" "works ever time" secondary rods are a set of DRs and a "G" hanger. I buy mine from a place called The Carburetor Shop in Ontario, California (not Canada). Area code 909 or 919, I forget which. Call information.

I got mine here http://www.carbs.net/rodshang.asp.

I had rods & hanger in before my mods. After the mods, I adjusted idle speed and choke pull-off. That's it.

Is there really a way to know what you need, or is it just basically a guessing game. From what I heard, I should probably either get CK or DR rods and a G hanger. Which set of rods would be more recommended for a 305? Also, I understand that the lower in the alphabet you go, the more the hanger lifts the rods, so is the G hanger too much, too little, or just right. I don't want to go overboard, but I want to maximize the potential of my other parts. I know this is kind of a vague, terrible question, but I am open to listen to any ideas. Thanks.

Only one way to tell: You gotta try 'em all!

Or, you can take Damon's advice and go B/DR and work from there.

five7kid,

Carb's Unlimited hasn't stocked DR rods since I've been looking at their site, which is about the last 8 months or so

I misspoke. I had the DR rods from the Edelbrock 1901 I used to have on the '57. I picked up other choices (like CK) and the hangers from them.

But, I did have the DR rods & B hanger in the carb when it was still an LG4.

Thanks guys, I've got a good place to start from now, and sorry Damon, I must have been blind when I read your post.
