Which Carb to buy???
I have a 85 sport coupe with a 330ph 406 in it, and I'm looking to throw a new carb at it. I have a Holley 600 (4160 1850S) on it right now. It's a old one without the blow-out protection. I guess my question is, What's the best carb for streetability/fuel economy that isn't going to kill more than 10 ponies? Currently I'm looking at a new Holley 1850, a Jet Q-Jet (I don't mind changing the manifold), or a Carter AFB. What do you think?
Thanks

You need more CFM, first off. ~750cfm would be a good number to shoot for.
Personally I'd go for a QJet, but I know them backward and forward. If you are not familiar with them they can be challenging to get dialed in. But they're also the only carb you can pick up for $15 a piece in a junkyard.
Can't go far wrong with the 'ol Holley 750 Vac Secondary carb. Reasonably cheap for a new carb. Reliable. Easy to install and tune.
Edelbrock/Carter. Have played around with them some and the're OK. Nothing to write home about. Just OK.

For 330HP there is nothing wrong with 600CFM. You will probably want to swap out the secondary spring for a lighter one. I might suggest the 600CFM Edelbrock/Carter. It is a square bore but the primaries are smaller than the primaries on a Holley. This will help with throttle response and low RPM operation. With a little tinkering there isn't really anything wrong with the carb you have now.

stick with a holley, get a new one though. Or a speed demon, but those are expensive. My friends swiched from holley to edelcrap and lost power.

A 750 Holley v.s. is a good choice if you want the best performance , a 600 cfm is good for good fuel economy and fair performance.
