Acceleratot pump tuning. Lengthen the override spring or should I compress it?
If you've read my post about my car running like crap when I floor it, can you help me here? I've tuned the float level fairly descent and it idles good. I'm thinking that I'm not getting the right pump shot. Any advise. Alos I'm running a single plane manifold so should I have to raise the jets 3-4 numbers higher?? Please help soon.

Open your throttle fully. Now measure how much travel is left in the accelerator pump arm. It should still have .030-.050" of travel left in it as measured between the tip of the acc. pump arm and the bolt/spring combo that pushes against it.
Adjust this distance for both the primary and secondary accelerator pump arms by turning the "bolt" in or out to get the required clearance.
Lots of Holley carbs have this adjustement "monkeyed with" by the time they make it to my garage. This is a "set and forget" kind of adjustment- not much to be gained by deviating from this adjustement spec.

What he said, the spring isn't a method to adjust the pump shot. Some squirters and pump cams will give you some options.

I'm trying to keep the stock jets. (any idea on what they #'s they are???) I'd also like to keep the stock AP cam untill I fix everything elese to see what the problem really is. Thanks for the help though. Any more advise.
With the engine off, I pressed the lever fairly hard until the squirters shot fuel down th carb. Should I try to get more of this pump shot or less? Tighten the screw or loosen???

Not jets, squirters--they are different. the springs is not to tune the acclerator pump. It's either adjusted correctly or not. By just barely opening the throttle you should see a little bit of gas squirt. If you don't you probably need to loosen the nut, which will lengthen the spring and take up any slack.
Why do you want to keep the stock jets and acclerator pump cam--they could be the problem or part of the problem

I didn't say that I don't want to change jets or cams. I just want to find out if there is anything else I can do before I go out and by new jets or cams. Thanks guys.
