TPS on CC Q-Jet

TPS on CC Q-Jet
Finally getting close, got all the bugs worked out of the new 330HP 350HO swap. just rechecked the TPS voltage and it seems to have taken on an attituded and is reading 4.5V at idle and goes up from there to about 4.8V @ 1/2 throttle. I know this is not right but not sure if it means it is is time to replace it or adjust it, or possibly sticking? does anyone have some specs on this as far as resistance that should be read at various throttle positions or any further checks to do before condemming it. should I just pull the thing out and replace it, or pull the plug and try messing with the adjustment.
thanks for all feedback to get this project this far...

Well.... According to the GM service book that I have, at idle the voltage should be around 0.51 volts. It should be steady and should have a smooth transition as the throttle is opened. The TPS is just a variable resistor. You may need to adjust the TPS position arm. There is a screw set in an opening on the throttle linkage side of the carb. Yours sounds way off. How you pulled the carb apart recently? Are you sure that it got put together correctly? Either that or your TPS is done. Not sure what the max should be.
Just want to say that for all the complaining some people so about Quadrajets, I just don't get it. I just finished my first rebuild of a Quadrajet. I used the GM Camaro service manual, borrowed or bought the tools and rebuild kit, TOOK MY TIME TO GET IT RIGHT, made all the adjustments according to the manual, cleaned every part. There are 12 mechanical adjustments on ccQuads not including the sensors checks. I dropped it back on the 305 in my 85Z, fired it up and it runs beautifully. I have a nonCC quadrajet on my 69SS and I've got it tuned very nice. You just have to learn how these things work and dial them in correctly.

TPS Done
that was what I was afraid of. I didn't take take it apart, just took it off the old motor and installed on the new one. I had the old saying in mind "if its not broke don't fix it" I was hoping that it might just be stuck, was hoping to avoid tearing it down since it runs great, but the check engine light coming on may cause problems getting through emmissions. (I hear they frown on that) and knowing my luck the person testing it will be having a bad day. The adjustment on mine is capped off (to avoid tampering). should I mess with pulling the plug and tweeking with it or just replace the TPS.
momar..
I know some of the adjustments, I haven't done all of them but I have been reading up on them since it looks like I may be doing some, I could scan the directions and diagrams I have.
some of them include..
Choke Unloader-Primary
Choke Unloader-Secondary
Air Valve Rod Adjustment
Choke Lever Adjustment
Choke Rod Fast Idle Cam
Unloader Adjustment
Secondary lockout
M/C Solenoid
Idle Air Valve
Idle Mixture
Idle Load Compensator
Throttle Position Sensor
float level
and fast Idle
are topics that I have. I can scan them in if you would like or need them. Its about 20 pages that covers E4ME/E4MC and E2SE. email me if you want and I can start scanning.

sounds like you got most of the adjustments....
I would guess your TPS is toast, especially if you have full range of motion on the accelerator pump. I haven't priced them recently but they are available. Can't imagine that they are that expensive, just a resistor.
Just curious.. which book are you reading for your carb info? I have a haynes manual but it is more suited for the non-cc carbs. The info for cc units is iffy. The GM service manual is great and it leads you through each step for the exact carb you are working on.
Nothin wrong with a Q-jet!

Momar....YGM (you got mail)
Erik.....Yep, Tosted TPS old one read 200K - 500 ohms from idle to full, New one reads 12,500 - 1500 ohms.
cost wasn't too bad, $25 for the sensor and $15 for the carb kit, and a free buzz working with all the carb cleaner chemicals.
