Edelbrock Carb Expert wanted..........

I am in the process of tuning my model 1411 750 cfm carb to the Tucson elevation and heat at 2,500 feet. My motor is a 383 with a TPIS ZZ9 cam, Performer RPM intake, 1 inch carb spacer and AFR 190 heads. The car has Hooker LT headers and no exhaust yet. It is a 5 speed tranny.

What jets and rods would be a good starting point? Presently have .113 primary jets with 71/47 rods with the silver springs and .110 secondary jets. Seems too rich on the idle and cruise mode and lean on the power mode. I did set the floats to spec - 7/16" and 1-1/4" and run 5-6 psi fuel pressure.

Also, what is the difference between the model 1407 and 1411, seems to be just the stock jets sizes and electric choke?

I am using the Edelbrock book to tune it and the model 1407 settings (jet - map). I called Edelbrock and they want me to use .104 primary jets with 70/42 rods. I haven't tried this for fear of it being way too lean.

Thanks

Any ideas?

I have the same carb. You are right about that differences between 1407 and 1411 all it is the jets and the choke. Have you taken the carb apart before? What makes you think it is too rich while cruising? If it is too rich while idling then it is the A/F mixture is off. Are you sure of your timing? It could be alot of things. But I have not had to jet down my carb yet and my 350 is running great.

There used to be someone on this board that was real good at these carbs. His name was ODB but he has not posted here in a long time.

I WOULD RATHER PUSH A CAMARO THAN DRIVE AN IMPORT

1983Z28 350w/ edelbrock performer RPM power package , dynomax shorty headers, 700R-4 with shift kit, 750cfm carb, edelbrock 3" exhaust system, 16" IROC rims and ASCD SS hood.

future mods:
SLP headers, completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, NEW PLAN IN THE MAKING:
BUILD A WILD CHEVY 302 JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL Z28 HAD

Super,

Yes, I have had the carb top off many times replacing jets and adjusting the floats. I know it's rich by checking my exhaust exits and the spark plugs. Mucho black soot. I know it's not oil. I also have an A/F Autometer gauge that I have been using to help tune the car. The timing is set to 12* BTDC and I have an adj vacuum port on the distributor with some lite springs inside. This motor ran fine at low elevation in KY last Fall.

Now I'm here in sunny, hot, higher-elevation Tucson. Tuning my heart out!

Do you have ODB's email address?

Thanks
