750 holley and edelbrock preformer ... need help..

I have this combo on my car I just bought (750 holley and edelbrock preformer on my 305HO) and have been reading that a carbed setup is great if you know how to tune it up properly.. and well I don't .. can someone help me out.. is there anywhere I can read up and learn how to tune up my baby properly.. or can someone explain it in terms that I'll understand (sorry, kinda new at this whole car game).. thanks..

Your right. A carbed setup is great-if its set up right. Your going to ahve a lot of problems with a 750cfm on a 305 no matter wahat you do. 750cfm is just too much airflow and will put your little motor on its nose. Thers a very simple formula for figuring how much carb you need. It goes: (Engine displacement x maximum RPM)/3456 so for you this would go:
(305 x 5500)/3456 = 485 cfm This assumes a 5500 rpm redline, about where your Performer runs out of breath any way. So,you'll want a carb somewhere in the neighborhood of 500-600 cfm. This will give you strong low end response *** well as good top end breathing plus romm for mods in the future. I hope this helps you out.

No way is a 750 correctly tuned to big for a 305. If you will find somenone who is going to tune it for you or if you are going to tune it yourself that 750 is ok for your 305. Now if you go overboard with your jetting yes you will have alot of problems.
