JBL 600.1 Amp
I am lookin at this amp to power 2 Alpine Type-R 12" DVC's. I think the amp is enough to power the subs nicely. My question is... how many watts will this amp put out in a 1 ohm mode? It is rated at:
- 300 watts @ 4 ohms
- 600 watts @ 2 ohms
So I was wondering if it would put out 1200 watts or closer to 1000 watts. I am just wondering because i think the amp would be perfect for running the subs in parallel. Thanks

Well, it should make double the 2ohm (so 1200w) rating at 1ohm. But if it's not rated for that low an impedence, do you really think it's a good idea to try it there? You don't want to cook your amp.
If I remember correctly, Jobryan has had some experience with JBL's amps. Maybe you could ask him his opinion.

Anyone else have any experience with this amp? Is it underrated? I think from the reviews that I have read that it is putting out a ton of power.

Yes the JBL 600.1 are 1ohm stable. In 2ohms and 1ohms it's been benchmarked at 725W/RMS so they are very underated. The damping factor between the 1 ohm load impedance in comparison to the 2 ohm impedance and the damping factor is greater in the higher the impedance, though approx. 100 @ the 1 ohm load impedance.
What this boils down to is, the two ohm impedance is the best impedance to get the most 'quality' sound out of the amp. it will have no problem (supposedly) operating w/ the equivalent impedance/ resistance of 1 ohm (same 600 wrms output), however the damping factor decreases. Hope this helps John

Thanks alot. I think that amp will be perfect for my setup that I am starting in June. And I think these amps look awesome. You can't find to many amps out there that are stable to 1 ohm. This one is the only one I found that is 1 ohm stable and doesn't make my money pocket cry.
