Speaker sizes
Hi,
I havea 1986 Z28 anda1986 Pontiac Firebird, I had 4x6's in the firebird, but when I tried to put them in the Z28, they seemed to be too smal, I was wondering if the 1986 Z28 with ERS had 4x6 or 5x7 speakers? And what speakers would be reccomended for under $150?

Jes,
As far as I know, 4X6 is the size of front speakers for all 3rd gen cars, but I could be wrong... You sure the speakers from the 'bird are stock? Anyway, I really like Boston Acoustics, they sound great and don't cost an arm and a leg. They come as CX or RX series. Both are good, the RX are slightly better both build and sound quality wise.

Again...never had any probs w/ installing 4x6 speakers in the front. I am currently running Pioneer TSA series speakers all around, 2-ways in the front and 4-way 6x9's in the rear. I ran the fronts through a passive crossover to keep the bass from tearing up the surrounds, since they are in the dash and long-term exposure to the sun will make the surround brittle. Also, a good way to get bang for your buck is to enclose your rear speakers and move them from the factory enclosure in the C-pillars. The C-pillar enclosure doesn't seal too well. Mine are in the hatch area, on top of my sub enclosure/amp rack, and they sound awesome. It also alleviates the effect you get from hearing the right side rear better than the left, since the seat blocks you from hearing it directly. In any case, something to think about, since if you can make the speakers you DO get sound better, you might not have to spring for the really expensive speakers. This might help if you are budget-minded like myself.
