Here's a good one for you guys....

After installing my new system (see my other post here for details on the system) I have a buzz/hum in my speakers that increases with the revving of my engine. I double checked my grounds, installed a ground loop isolator and it was still there loud a ever. Then I installed a big noise filter on the power and ground for my deck, IT'S STILL THERE!!! What do I try next??? I've tried everything I can think of. It's not that loud but since it's there I'd like to get rid of it.

What kind of plug wires do you have? Did you run the power cable right beside the RCA cable? Solid core plug wires can cause noise, and running the RCA cables beside the power cable can cause noise. Just a couple of thoughts.

Well that wasn't it. I just re-routed my RCA cables on the other side of my car away from the power cable and it's still there.

Would this make a difference though, right where the RCA jacks plug into the amps, it touches the power cable because I have the 2 amps side by side. Would just that little spot be causing it?

Dump the ground loop isolator (listen to your system with and without it with the car off, unless its a good one (and good ones are VERY hard to find) you are taking the top and bottom off of the signal (highs and lows). Ditto the noise filter.

Where do you have your stock radio grounded? Try hooking it up to a good solid ground (not the radio harness) and see if that helps. How do you have your amps attached (attached to wood or metal?). What happens when you turn the gains up or down?

You might want to try pulling the alt wires "the clip" while the car is running, radio on and see if that helps the noise go away most of the time if the noise is comming from the deck & amp its power wire or alternator related.
Good luck!

Ok, I'll lose the noise filter and the ground loop isolator since they didn't help anyway.

I'm not using the factory radio, I'm using a new CD player and come to think of it, I don't think the deck it's self is grounded, I'll try that. I have the amps mounted with screws going through the carpet and touching the metal but there is a rubber gromet on the amp the screw goes through so there is no metal touching the amps at all.

Turning my gains up and down don't do anything thing for the noise, it only get quieter and louder depending if the gain is up or down.

I thought if you unplugged the alt. the car died??? Are you sure that's safe to try?? It sounds like a good idea.....

Yes its very safe because your battery will still give the car enough juice to run and it might help ya find the problem area.

What about putting a noise filter on the RCA's it fixed my whine . Or is that the ground loop isolator you was talking about?

how long is your ground cable for the amplifier? If it is any longer than 18 inches, this could be causing your ground loop.

Hmmm... i have a power wire, 3 sets of RCA's, 2 remote turn wires for the amps, and a speaker wire all running from the front to the back with no problems.

Try turning off one amp and then the other, see if that helps. That way maybe one of the amps has some interference. Double check that the grounds that you have are quality connections.. sand the area if need be.

Create some muting plugs and plug them into the amps. If the noise persists, then you know the problem lies with the radio or the RCA cables. If the problem goes away, then your problem lies with the amp(s), speaker wire, or speakers. You eliminate 50% of the system by doing this.

A muting plug is a rca with both terminals connnected (its basically 0 signal). You can buy cheap ones at Radio Shack and just solder a short wire between the terminals.

The best way is to disconnect your stereo,
put it in the back near your amps and see if running a short RCA wire takes away the noise.

You have a ton of variables, just need to start with 2 and add one at a time until you figure it out.

So, you have the amps, speakers, RCA cables, head unit, etc. Just be sure to test one thing at a time (like one amp at a time with one RCA at a time, not all three at a time).
