Airspace for JL sub
How much airspace does a 10 inch JL sub need? I am looking to buy one and I want build a box for it, but I need to know how big I need to make it. Thanks

First, you need to find out what model of JL sub you are purchasing. After that, get the technical specs from JL Audio. They will give you VAS specs for many different enclosures that apply to that sub. I am running 3 JL 8W6 subs in a sealed enclosure that I built to fit into the hatch area of my 1988 Camaro. The box comes up to the height of the package shelf where the amp rack is mounted, and provides about 1.5-1.75 cubic feet of air volume, which is perfect for these subs in a sealed box.
A better way to go about this would be to figure out where you are planning on installing the sub, figure out how much space you have, and then select a driver that will fit your needs. I admit, 3rd Gen cars don't leave a lot of options for sub woofer placement, and the obvious solution, which is a free air baffle over the rear well area sounds like ^$&*, which is why I went with the custom box. I would guess a 10"JL would need between 1-1.5 cubic feet of space, depending on the model. If you need to contact me for details on how to go about building a box for the hatch area, send an e-mail.
