Componet speaks, which one

ok im looking at componet speakers to put in a 79 Z28 or possibly a 91-92 Z28 i do not like 4x6" so im goin with 6.5" im trying to keep everything kenwood excelon since my deck, cd-change, amps, 6x9's are all kenwood excelon, im looking at two sets, the kenwood excelon KFC-XR60P which comes with the tweeter not attached to the 6.5 and with two crossovers which they say handle peak power of 180-watts, on the other hand i also seen a pair of kenwood excelon KFC-X167db which comes with the tweeter attached as a 2-way, and they say handle peak power of 220-watts, which would sound better, or which would be better? money isnt an option on this problem so im looking for best alround sound for highs. please help

Well in the '79 the only speakers are 6x9's that go in the rear deak, or that's how my dads '79 Z is. You can also make a plate to fit a 6.5" components. In your 91 or 92 If you are wanting to put 6.5" speakers in the front you will need to put them in kickpanels or in the door. My choice is kicks for better imaging. If you are putting them in the back then make a plate to fit them. Either way components usualy sound better then coaxals. Just make sure you have room for the crossover network and the seperate tweeter.

Don't limit yourself to one brand when it comes to speakers. They just have too much of a unique sound to pigeon-hole yourself into one brand. Go listen to a bunch of stuff and buy the one you like the sound of best.

The Kenwood KFC-XR60P seperate component set sounds like a better idea w/kicks for what your thinking of doing. I had a complete Excelon system in my car before it all got stolen. In all honesty I believe in going with all the same name mids and highs because of voice matching but if money is not an object I'd go Boston Acoustics Pro. I had a set of these installed in a prior vehicle an the SQ was excellent, the best i've heard so far.
