Door Mount Speakers

Who's got the Speakers in their Door panels rather than kicks? And do you have any photos? Anyone know if there is something simlair to the kick panels that you can buy and screw into the doors? Probably not huh....

I have a 6.5 midbass in my doors. I don't have a way to post pics so I'll try to describe what I did as a just for now install. I'm going to do it differently later on when I have more time. I ordered some of those door panels with the carpeted section on the bottom. I cut out a 1/4 hardboard template of this section. I then cut out a few rings out of 3/4 MDF and wood glued them and stacked them to give the speaker enough clearance. (If you have power windows there is almost no clearance behind the panel). I also cut a hole in the door panel and the 1/4 in board to try to get some more air space behind the magnet. I covered the whole thing and fiberglassed it and just carpeted it. My next revision will be vinyled. It looks like a C job to me but I get lots of comments on it (I'm VERY picky). Put a little fiber fill behind each speaker and it does the job and looks professional enough to keep me satisfied for now. Took a day to finish. Hope that gives you some idea.

Car: 85 IROC-Z / 88 GTA
Engine: 403 LSx (Pending) / 355 Tuned Port
Transmission: T56 Magnum (Pending) / T5
Axle/Gears: 3.42 / ?
I had my speakers in the doors of my firebird. Well, I had the 6.5's in the doors, and the tweets in the kicks. In my IROC, I put it all into custom kicks. My IROC sounded 10000% better. The imaging was substantially better, especially in the midrange. I've since swapped those speakers for some Diamonds, but I haven't hooked any of it up yet, so I don't know how it sounds with the new speakers.

Anyway... keep it in the kicks.

If you mean other than this...

QLogic I believe used to make a universal style door pod and there were a few other companies that made basic plastic ones that were just bolt and go, but they were not great quality and I wouldn't have recomended them in the first place.

I would say get some MDF and fiberglass and have at it yourself if you really want door speakers.

I agree with Jim about keeping it in the kicks. I have a 4 inch mid and tweet in my kicks and the 6 midbass is in the doors. If your going for SQ start in the kicks and put something in the door as needed such as a midbass like I did.

At the moment, I've got a set of 3-way comps in my rs. i've got kickpanel pods for the 1" and 4" and have the 6 1/2" in the door. i need to make pods for the 6 1/2s in the door because they are kinda just thrown in, plus it will also help with the midbass.

Cool Carl looks good. Have any pics of the door panel with the door closed?
