Rockford Fosgate Head Units??

I have a chance to get both a Rockford Fosgate head unit and CD changer for pretty cheap, but I don't know whether their decks are up to the standards of their sub or amps. Does anybody know anything about them? The deck I'm looking at is the RFX8350 with changer control, sub out, 3 sets of RCA's, video capability, etc. The changer's mod# is RFX8810. These model numbers are Canadian and may be different than American ones. Thanks.

I don't want to get ripped off with some second-rate product line.

i would imagine they are good, my whole entire system is Fosgate, i just never went with their head units because i never really like the way they looked, my one friend had a head unit and he thought it was pretty good and never got rid of it, said it wasnt worth the money to sell or something, but as for personal use, i love their speakers and amps...

What worries me is that they added an "X" to the model# (RFX). I just don't want to be jumping into something like Orion's "Cobalt" product line.

To make it easy for you, go to Crutchfield.com and look on there for the definition of the specs of a CD player/head unit. Then compare them to other brands.

If I remember right, the RF head unit has a "not so impressive" efficiency rating. Not that it's all that matters, but it's little things like that which will help you make a decision. If you get a good deal on them, then how could you not be happy?

Thanks. That Crutchfield site really helped. The deck does seem to have a bit of trouble competing with otherdecks in it's listed price range, but it's pretty competetive in the range I'm looking at. I think I'll go for it.

I'm not sure if they have changed or not, but RF's head units used to be manufactured by Delco. They were good build quality but originally a little short on sound quality. I believe that they have stepped up in the last few model years however and since I have not dealt with one in some time, I can only go by what I've seen/heard.

John Pitts is using one in his expert class PT Cruiser if I'm not mistaken (Reaper II), but it is heavily modified.

Delco!?! Geez, I hope not. I've bought the deck and changer, but I haven't installed them yet. I think I'll get on that quickly so that I can take it back if it sounds poor.

It's strange. I've had a really hard time finding unbiased information not only on this deck, but on Rockford Fosgate decks in general. I don't know anybody who has owned one, or who even knows/knew somebody who has owned one. So far, this thread has been the most helpful. Thanks.

I actually bit the bullet and installed it, and I've really got to agree with you. It was a direct swap from my old h/u, I didn't change anything else (amp, sub, speakers). I couldn't believe how much better my system sounded after the swap. I mean. I was expecting an upgrade, but the quality blew me away. Granted my old deck was just an old Alpine 3 disc in-dash CD player, but it wasn't a bad deck. I think the real difference was the fact that the Fosgate deck's pre-amp resistance is only 50ohms compared to other decks at 100ohms (all my speakers are running off the amp). Whatever the cause, though, I'm impressed.
