I GOT SOME SUBS ARE THEY GOOD?!?!?

Hey, I just bought 2 Rockford Fosgate 12" subs model # RFZ2812 I was wondering if anyone has these or has heard these subs before and how good they sound. I'm thinking of going with a Rockford Amp also because I think the Xplod 760Watt amp would blow these subs because they are 200Watt. But I dont' know about car audio at all that's why I'm posting this.

Those are rockford's entry-level subs. The ones that Circuit City and Best Buy sell during their buy one get one free deals. They're decent subs for the money. You don't have to worry too much about that Sony amp overpowering them though. Their 760 watt amp (XM-1502SX) is rated at 150 watts RMS per channel, and even that is a bit (a bunch) optimistic. It's a decent amp, but certainly not one that's going to overpower those subs.

If I get the Sony Xplod 760 Watt amp will it make those subs sound good? If not what would you prefer... I'm going for about $200 and under....

There's really not anything in the $200 and under range that's going to move those subs. Power costs money. I'd look into a Kicker ZR120, but that's going to run near $250 with the crossover.

No. My buddy's got one in a (pardon my language) Hyundai, running two 10" X-Plods. He's got an X-Plod HU, 6 1/2"s, 6x9s, etc. It sounds pitifull. He's gotta turn the gain WAY UP to sound even close to my system, and that's w/ my volume halfway up. Check my sig.

He's not at all happy. I just do the "giggle-snort-giggle-snort" at him. Pisses him off!!!

Edit: BTW, that's a Punch100 that I bought back in 1991 running 2 MTX Thunder3000s. Cheap **** to, but good companies.

Jim is dead on. If I had those subs, the ZR120 would be a perfect marriage. Or, well, is there a perfect marriage?

Like Jim said, those are Rockford's entry-level subwoofers. I've only had the chance to listen to just a few of them...but I think they're very good for the price.

Also, you did the right thing by buying the 8-ohm version. You can wire the two speakers in parallel, then bridge your amplifier for a little more power.

I've put in a few of those Sony amps...they do seem to put out enough power in my opinion...but they also seem to get extremely hot for some reason.

In any event, I'd say that's a half-decent amp for $200, but you can NEVER have too much power. And like Jim said, the Sony will put out its rated RMS wattage, at best. There are many other brands out there...like Kicker, Rockford, MTX, and others, which actually put out significantly MORE power than they're rated for.
