system is up and running!

here's what I got:

Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P31
Dash Speakers: Pioneer 4x6, 2-way 65W handling
Sail Speakers: Pioneer 6x9, 2-way 140w handling
Subwoofer: Pioneer 10" IMPP, 400w max(TSW28C)
Amp: US Acoustics USX2080
Box: Self-built ~1.0 cu. ft. sealed enclosure.

maybe I'll borrow a digital camera and post some pics. The box fits perfectly in the trunk well, so I can put my t-tops in their bag. The sub faces backwards, so nothing can hit it(can't even see it from the top.)

I used 1/2" MDF for the front/back and top/bottom pieces.. and *gasp* 1/4" for the two sides.. I was concerned it would explode.. or rattle violently.. but.. it didn't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. I guess it still could.. but I ran every kind of music I have through it.. everything from Jazz.. to Country to Led Zepplin.. even some Rap.. and Tejano.. nary a rattle! It took about an hour to get all the tone controls on the head unit set up, and the gain and crossover set on the amp.. now i'm diggin' it. just thought I'd update those of you who helped. Thanks.

Anthony:

That sounds like a nice set-up you have devised.

Are you going to be posting pics of it? You could pop them into this post perhaps.

Gordon

P.S. I like the way you said people can't even see the sub from the top

Gordon,
I like it.. it's been a few days now.. no leaks, and it sounds great will all types of music. Maybe I'm just lucky. but I'd like to think I picked the right components for what I wanted. The best thing is.. even when it's hitting as hard as it's gonna hit.. no rattles!.. all kinds of **** rattled when I had just the bose crap in the back.. now.. nothing. I don't know if other people like not hearing the bass outside the car, but you can't really even tell that there's "bump in the trunk" outside the car, unless the windows/t-tops/hatch are open.

I will post pics, but I'm headed off to my college orientation tomorrow, and I need to get new t-tops and renew my license tomorrow. I'll get my hands on a digital camera and take some pics as soon as I can.

OEJ,
i love what I paid for mine.. $0.. greatest part.. not stolen! A guy I work w/ ****ed his WHOLE electrical system installing his stereo, so he ripped everything out, and gave me the head unit... "man, if you can get it to work, you can have it.".. it works quite nicely.
