Will my Orion 280 watt amp power two 12"s?
Hey guys,
I have an Orion cs150.2 amp in the trunk mounted to an 8 inch orion tube. I want more bass, and am probably gonna get 2 12s. Will the amp i have power them, it states in the manual that it gives 90x2@4ohms, 140x2@2ohms, and 260x1@4ohms. How do i wire them into 2 ohms even if this is possible at all. is it possible to run them in bridged mode at 2 ohms? Just curious, i bet it will handle it, will it thump. Lemme know guys.

I don't know much about car audio but I'm gettin there....
But yeah it'll power it. I went from 2 RF Punch 12" subs on a 100.2 RF Punch amp *which hit alright*... to 1 RF Punch HE 12" sub on the same amp bridged. And it hits hard. The amp was rated 25W x 2 @ 4-ohms.. 50W x 2 max. On 1 sub it's rated at 100W x 1... 160W x1 max. Anywayz... yeah it'll power the 2 12's... but I'd prolly look for just one good 12" and go with that... the 12" RF Punch HE 4-ohm sub is really good

90wx2 is enough to run a set of 12s. Many people push more wattage but they don't really need it.
Since you don't already have the 12s you are in a situation where you can pick 12s that will maximize the output from your amp.
Some of the basic choices are:
You could buy 2 4ohm SVC subs and get 90w per sub (180w total).
You could buy 2 8ohm SVC subs and wire them in parallel for a 4 ohm load and bridge the amp and get 260w total (130w per sub).
You could buy 2 DVC (dual 4ohm voice coils) subs and wire each sub's coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load and get 140w per sub (280w total).
There are other coices because you can get 2ohm subs, 6 ohm subs, ect.
However, you should be able to see that the most you will probably be able to safely get from the amp is 280w. To get this you need two loads that are two ohms each. The easiest way to get this with two subs is to get two subs that each have dual voice coils and each voice coil is 4 ohms.
