Should I add a 10" tube?

I have a plate & free-air sub setup that hits pretty damn hard, but I've always thought about throwing an extra amp and a bass tube in the car. I'd probably put it in that little spot made by the rear seat against the hatch deck.

Or should I not waste my cash? Thanks!

personally, i would ditch the plate and free-air sub and just get one 12" tube. Even a 10" will sound better then the plate, trust me.

Jim wanna comment on this?

right now all I have is a 10 inch tube. the speaker I use is relatively cheap ,(super pro= pyramid) the base hits hard, I normally have to lower it cause the cheap speaker plays bad when its too loud, get a tube with a good speaker and your set.

V63.1 nailed it. Get a decent Tube and a nice sub (mTx 6000, or 8000) and a decent size amp to power it and its sure to pound.

Pound better then the plate anyway

Trust me, I'm never getting rid of the plate, mypos. I asked for opinions on tubes, not on my plate. Lets put it this way, kev- if it sucked, I wouldn't have it.

hey i could care less. Your ears are the ones suffering, not mine. However, i personally guarantee that one 10" tube will sound better then your plate setup.

ahh yes, look into it! Also look into the worst sound quality out there, cuz thats what you'll have. Never mix subs sizes.

Wow! My plate really bothers you, eh? Obviously it's not the best setup; it's a free-air design! Duh? Do you think I don't know that? The plate's staying because I like the way it looks. Tough. Deal with it.

Besides, I've heard mixed-sub systems before, and they sounded fine to me. I guess I just don't have the ungodly trained ear you've developed. (laughs) I get my share of compliments, so I guess my friends don't have that ear, either. But hey, what do I know?

What I think this board is trying to say is this:

You want to have more booming bass so you think that by adding a bass tube you would be able to accomplish this. If this is what you are trying to do then the best thing would be a sealed enclosure. This way you want have the odd sound of mixed drivers and the sound quality (or lack of) a plate.

Just a suggestion

Ryan

if you werent gay, i would be totally oblivios to why you get so offended. You asked for an opinion on adding a 10" tube moron, i gave you my opinion. Now...

About my ears, you'll have to live with it. Just because mine are better doesnt mean you have to go and pout about it (ya girl).

oh yea, and about that (laughing) H0M0.. that was the Gayest thing i ever seen type on this board.

my-"POS"-camaro, you're one strange little kid! I haven't heard some sad little attempt at an insult like that since I was in middle school. If you're trying to come on to me, forget it; I'm straight. And since you're dropping this conversation to an immature level, I'm done with you. Goodbye.

[edit] And Ryan, thanks for the clarification. It seems I should've phrased my original question differently, because the "board" (besides Sgt and v6-3.1) misunderstood the question. I wanted to know how well a tube sounded. I didn't ask anything about how my plate sounded, OR how a combination of the two would sound, OR what the best setup would be. I know what a great setup involves, and if having the best system was my life dream, I'd have it by now. Since it's not, the plate is perfect enough for me, and it's staying. Apparently my opinion/decision to keep the plate really upsets some people! Go figure.
