Stereo 'pops' when volume is up real high. Not anough power?

Okay here's my system

- Clarion 45X4 CD Player
- Jensen 5.25" 2-Way Dash Speakers
- Pioneer 6X9" Sail Panel Speakers(suck)
- 50HZ filters on both (to block the bass from them)
- (2) Pioneer 12" 400W Subs in custom sealed box.
- Phase Linear 200W 2CH amp.
- Rockford Fosgate speaker wire, RCA wires

I know its not the best, but I'm on a budget.

It sounds great until I turn the volume up to about 26 (depends on the song) and it will make a popping sound when the bass hits, like it doesnt have enough power for it. Is this possible? How can I fix it? Capacitor? Bigger power cables to radio and amp? right now the radio is wired to the stock radio power wires, and the amp has a 14 gauge power wire.

OK I JUST went throught this with my cars front speakers. I have 2 amps powering 7 speakers. You need to turn the bass off. all the way off everywhere. turn all your gains down. thrun the volume all the way up untill you start to hear distortion. then if you have a cross over start there and start to turn up the gains slowly there, and if it maxes out there without any distortion then start to turn up the amps gains. Without the crossover turn the amps gains up VERY SLOWLY untill you start to hear distirtion. It wont hurt to have your amps and sterio grounded at the same point either if you don't have it tht way already. Other than that theres nothing else you can do without buying a overpriced signal booster.

you want to talk about a ragamufin system heres what I have...2 4by6 boston acutics in dash, 2 alpine 6by9 3 ways in sail, 1 rock punch 12 with 2 pioneer 4 way 6by9's in a plate in the hatch. as far as power I have a 4by100 jensen and a multi channel kroiiler or however the hell its spelled. I got it for 100 bucks so I am not complaining. al in all I have spent around 550 in my system...I used to be in the navy so I got alot of it while I was in at discounted prices and no tax...

Usually overdriving the amps results in clipping. If you're getting "pops" then it sounds like you're overdriving your speakers. Those Jensen front speakers aren't going to handle much power. That "pop" is usually the cone reaching it's maximum excursion.

Are you using a low-pass XO on your subs?

Double check to make sure your amp and subs are wired up correctly. If you have the subs wired up for a 2 ohm load and the amp is rated for 4 ohm it's going to clip. Double check your wiring because that's usually one problem and does it ALWAYS clip even when the amps are cold in the morning?
