Stereo interference on a Radar Detector

Has anyone ever had problems with a radar detector being set off by their stereo? I just tried the Uniden 6599 that I was complaining about a few weeks back in a different vehicle, and there were no problems. I'm thinking that maybe I've developed some sort of vortex similar to the Bermuda Triangle within the cabin of my car that sets the detector off. That's all I've got. I've tried to think of other reasons without any luck. Comments? Suggestions? PLEASE!!!

Your stereo shouldn't be causing interference because the radar detector's frequency band is out of range. I've had several detectors in cars with loud systems and never had any interference from sound.

This is just a WAG...but maybe your system is causing a noticeable power drain which is affecting your detector. Does it act up only when your stereo is turned up or all the time?

It seems to me that it acts up no matter what I do. Even when I had my stereo off, it would still go nuts. I have been having problems with my charging system, though. I'm sure my battery is weak, and I think my alternator is on its last leg. Would fluctuating current screw it up?

Most definitely! Try plugging something else in to your connector (cigarette lighter) and see how it works. Also check the wiring to make sure its good. If you have a voltmeter, check the output while you are driving.

Unless you have other problems with your electricity, I wouldn't start replacing the battery or alternator just yet

If I leave my Uniden on with the car off, when I start the car up again, the power drain from the starter causes the radar detector to reset. I'd bet that's your problem. Either that, or the vibration from the stereo is affecting your cig lighter connection, and vibrating it loose.
