Stock GM Radio Wiring

Ran into something I haven't seen before while working on a friends 86 Firebird... In addition to the the three plugs, there are 2 wires hard-wired into the back of the factory deck. anyone got any ideas on what they are? One is brown, one orange, and there was no constant power line in the non-speaker plug, so I'm assuming one of them is constant power but am not willing to gamble on a car that is not mine. I'd appreciate any help.

I know this is an old one , but I too am wondering what the two wire plug(orange and brown ) is for. I'm currently trying to find a working factory radio for my car. Do i need to plug this one up to it.

Brown is the dimmer lead, Orange is constant +12 volts in all cases for 3rd gen cars, no matter what harness they appear on.

I made a mistake on color, was looking at it today and it is a two wire connector ,orange and black. The dimmer and constant 12v is on my other connector which consist of 6 wires and those2 are orange and brown. My radio(89 firebird) has a place to plug this one in ,but it appears to have a blue blocking clip on the connector, Maybe it is for an optional radio I don't have. Well, Radio does okay without it ,but I was mostly curious. Thanks

I dont wanna sound like an ******* but you guys are wrong.. Your friend has what I have!! YAY!! He has the GM Option of instead of 6x9's on the side, he has a 4x6 and a little sub in the side panels! The Orange and Brown/black wire are the "Bass Control" wires. They make it so u can turn the little woofers on the side panels. Although they ONLY Work with the stock stereo. So you can just cut them off or leave them. I'm glad some people are having the same problems as me now I have my stock speakers still in the side and ill post a pic of what i mean in a while

I agree that it's for the optional bass controls mounted o the dash, but I doubt if there is any speakers other than the factory 4 x6's and 6 x 9's. Those bass controls in my opinion are a joke. I get popping noises and vibrations when I turn on that feature on my other bird' (86 Trans Am).

You can find stock firebird radios at tacreationsusa.com and call them. They have a ton of f-body stuff. Andy
