Opinions on the best way for installing 6x9's in a Bose car...

I have an 87 IROC that came with the bose system. I'd like to install 6 x 9's in the stock location (and eventually do away with the small speakers in the rear). Should I install the 6 x 9's with the dampening stuff (the cone type thing behind the speakers) that came stock with the cars that came equipped with the 6 x 9's, or should I just dynomat behind the speakers and install them by cutting a hole in my plactic pieces where the stock ones are intsalled and drilling them into there? Which will sound better?

I would install them without that stock matting or dynomat. Later if you find that the panels are rattling behind the speakers, then you could Dynomat it.

The rattling wasn't really my concern. I just want to do whatever will produce the best sound. Any other opinions?

Anyone? Anyone? I also have another similar question that I forgot to add.
Will the speakers have any kind of worse output if there is nothing behind it besides the bare metal? Will they produce better sound in an area with more empty space behind it or less?

I wouldn't butcher a stock bose system for a pair of 6x9's. the mid bass on those bose systems kick *** !

No way, I'm really not happy with the bose speakers output. If I'm on the highway with my tops off I can barely hear the music. My plans are to eventually install 6x9's in the stock non bose location, build some nice kickpanel's and put some awesome component speakers in them and then build a fiberglass box in the back of the car and drop in two 10's.
