What's your opinion on the Punch 500a2 ?
I have the opportunity to buy a Rockford Fosgate amp a 500a2. They retail for about 350 new and I can get it for 150 new. Is it a good amp ? I'm planning to drive two MTX 10" subs with it in a rear hatch box. Thanx

Hey Blade, if you buy the 500a2 and put your subs in the rear let me know how it ends up sounding, i myself have 2 MTX 10's (7000's) and currently got a 250a2 rockford, and im looking into getting the 500a2 beacuse those subs can handle alot more power.. just undecided weather or not I want to wait and spend the money i dont have and get 12's or keep the 10's.. but since you got the same combo id like to know what yours sounds like.. depending on the series subs your have though.. thanks

Hey, i am now running the 250a2 for just my 6x9's. Until next week I pulled my subs and hooked it up. It made them soudn awesome. I was previously using the volume at 55-60 on my pioneer DEH7200, but now can really only turn it up to about 30-35 it makes them that loud. If you 6x9's can handle it, power them with the 250a2. I am getting the 800a2 for christmas....0 hrs away....he he. What i am trying to say is just don't pull the amp, re-route it.

The 500a2 is a nice amp. My brother has one in his 4th gen. He used it to drive 2 Punch 12" XLC's and it hit very hard.
I will be getting the amp from him soon since my Alpine is crapping out.
Right now his 500a2 is running his 6.5's in the rear and his 225.2 runs the 6.5's in the front. A very nice 1000a1 (I think that is the model #, I do know it is a 1000watt x1 mono amp) runs my two Premier 10's.

I definitly plan on keeping the 250a2 on top of the 500a2 or 800a2 (if i were to buy one when i get the money, but a cowl hood is more inviting right now).. selling that amp wouldnt get me more than 100$ now a days, and its a good amp, its just that the MTX 7000's (and 8000's now) can handle 400 watts RMS and 1000 peak so that amp doesnt quite power them even near the max.. i probably am going use it for my 6x9's.. im just not sure if i want to keep my 10's or go with some new mtx 8000 12's.. any opinions on 10s vs. 12's in the well? is it a big difference? would 3 10's be better or does the limitied airspace make 3 10's not sound as good as 2 12's would? cant decide what to do but all i know is i really want my backseat again =) someone help me decide what to do!

Make sure you're getting the right amp. The 500a2 sells for a lot more than $350 new. The 360a2 sells for about $400.

Actually I looked on ebay, theres dutch sales for 800a2 and 500a2's and its really damn cheap.. 800 was like $299 or like low 300s and 500 was like $263, it says brand new as well, its one of them high quantity "bid and you get it" auctions.

I would consider other amps other than RF. Since they have been selling to Best Buy thier quality control on thier lower lines has gone down considerably. They were great in the mid 90's and they are living on that rep IMO. Many companies are making "budget" amps that are price very reasonably but are still high quality. Two that I would look at are Cadence and USAcoustics. I have had great experiances with USAcoustics and have heard wonderful things about Cadence. Check them out at:
