RF 800a2

Just got lucky enough for my parents to get me the Rockford 800a2 amp for christmas. The slip rates it at 1180w. Is this too much power for most subs? I work at Best Buy so it was only $320. We sell the Vega series Vega 12" Subs, are these actually any good? Sorry for the long post, I guess my question is at 800+ watts of rms, what can handle this amp?

I really like those Vega subs, but they need a HUGE box. You'll need the whole back area of the car to get the airspace for a pair of 12s. That 800 will be a good match to a pair of Vega 12s though. Basically, that amp will do a great job of powering any pair of good quality 12s. You may want to consider a pair of subs that will work better in a smaller box though. Unfortunately, BB doesn't have a lot of speaker brands that I like. Some of the better Rockford subs, like the HE2 subs will work in a much smaller enclosure and will still have brutal output with that amp pushing them.

I was just down at the local shop and they adamantly say that 3 JL10W-6's will drastically outperform the vega 12's....n e one know. I would prefer, for price reasons to stick to te Vega 12's, $100 each at cost, vs the JL10W-6, $180 each. Would there be much difference?

i have 3 10-w6s and they are close to the best quality subs you can get.. I recommend the JLs without a doubt, Im running them on a PC1800 and they pound good and hard.

heh oops wrong button. i think the main difference between the two would be the 12s wont be as crisp and clean, if it is quality you want go with the JLs..

The vega's sound decent in a ported box but aren't really designed at all for a sealed box. If I were you, since you work at best buy, the best thing (and cheapest) that you can do with their equipment is order a qlogic box for your camaro/firebird, then spray rubberized undercoating inside of it. You can get the dual 12" box for about $170 if your store is one that will let you order it. The only problem is you need subs with about .75 cu ft of airspace. I would go with either JL w3's or something by audio bahn.

The ported box to fit 2 vegas probly could be done, but it is likely to be more work than it would be worth. Esp. since 2 sealed 12"s should sound just as good..
