Six 12's in my brother's 89 RS

I started building his enclosure and amp rack this weekend. We ripped out the whole interior except for the driver seat.Console, carpet, and all interior trim pieces are gone for now.The six 12's will be face up in an enclosure that covers the whole rear end from the rear cargo area to the sheetmetal where the rear seatback lays against. From there,I'll mold a fiberglass amp rack that curves down to where the seats used to be.The amps will be flush-mounted,and ALPINE will be etched out and lit up from behind via blue neon in between the two amps. Then I'm going to gel-coat and paint everything blue to match the Alpine logos. We already layed the whole car with Accumat from Scosche, and all cables and wiring. We built door pods to house 6 1/2" components.Everything will be Alpine. I will post pics when I get a new scanner or fix mine. Mike Harvey----Were your seats taken out when your system was installed? Just curious because I am installing my four 12"s in my 91 RS in the very rear cargo area, and I was just wondering how yours were installed.

Hey Rspeed I took out the entire interior to install the 2 13ft. rolls of Dynomat & then the new carpet. I didn't bother trying to put the rear seats back in b/c I wanted those seats out anyways. I took my old system of 2 10's out of the hatch b/c I wanted my cargo space back for my T-tops again. Later bro & good luck w/ the installs. Hey also check this out: both of my amps are set at minimum bass levels and the bass settings themselves are at -2 and they can go all the way up to +8 & they pund hard as hell right now. My car hits a 161.8 db, I can't imagine how hard it would hit when those levels are cranked, OUCH!!!!!!!

Since you mentioned about blowing out windows... Before we started on this system,he had three Alpine 12"s in the back with a 6oo watt Alpine pushing 'em before we ripped it out. Before we put the three 12"s in there,my brother had a pit in the middle of his windshield about the size of a Cheerio. After we finished the install,we cranked it and watched the pit in the windshield grow to a hairline crack, and watched it get bigger everytime the bass hit.
Now,two months later, the crack goes from the top to bottom of his windshield right down the middle. So now he wants to use my camcorder and tape the windshield shatter when we first crank up the new system. With six 12"s and almost a total system power of 1600 watts(1200RMS to the subs and 400 RMS to the mids and highs),a cracked windshield, and all windows and doors closed, I don't see a problem with that. If it happens,I'll download it for you all to see(I know we're cheating since the glass is already cracked .

Dang you guys are trailing pretty close on my butt with RMS power. I'm running 1320 watts RMS. This thing hits 161.8 db at all minimum and low bass setting on the amp. I would be scared to crank those bass settings all the way up. I've gotta see that window crack. He should get a plexiglass replacement window for the rear once that one crumbles. Later

Are you at all worried about the mess that will create when the glass breaks? Dont get me wrong I think that would be pretty damn cool to see but I would be scared of the glass doing damage to the system. I would also be pissed about having to take out that EXTENSIVE system to clean up the glass

True. But since I tint windows also at my shop,I'm going to lay on a piece of film across the front window so that,if it does shatter,it will stay on the film and not go everywhere. And if it doesn't shatter,we don't have to worry about the tint on the windshield, because he's going to replace the glass anyway probably that day or the next.We just figured we have a little fun while we're at it .

Mike Harvey- what kind of subs are you using? 10 or 12 inch and how many? (forget it, i just found your webpage this morning )

if u decide to ever crank the system up all the way with the bass controls, make sure there are no cheerio size pits in the windsheild or other glass
