Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
Sorry Guys, I haven't been on in a bit. I didn't generate much interested on my 2nd generation pods after I finished them. So I stopped for a while to work on my 71 Camaro, it looked like there was more interest in the 4th gen pods than I thought.
I thought I had my account set up to shoot me a email when someone replied and it looked like it didn't. So I have some catching up to do.
Guess my ears must have been ringing, because I had finishing these on my mind pretty heavy in the last week or so.
So here's my plan:
I have these almost ready to mold, just finessing some small details. I'll try and get the molds done in the next few weeks.
Once I get a set done, I'll post them here and anyone that's still interested we can go from there

They won't, unless you do some precise measuring and locating long screws to hold them in place. If you can send me a pic of the cup holder in place and some quick measurements I can tell you if these will completely cover the holes.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
These are basically universal fiberglass pods that you will adapt to fit. They won't be able to install unless your prepared to drill some holes in your door panels and drill some holes in the metal.
In the custom world this won't matter to most folks.....but if your trying to preserve a rare car, you might need to look into some repop door panels and put the factory ones in storage.

I tracked down some GTA deluxe panels from a member on here, hopefully he ships them pretty quick. I'm going to start mocking something up after I get the standard panels done.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
Got the first set pulled out of the mold, I'm happy with the way they have turned out
I still need to trim them up and everything and I will post pics here of a set ready to ship so you can see what your getting. Maybe Monday afternoon.
That set is for sell BTW, and I will try and do a few more this weekend. Here's the kicker:
Normally I ship the next day fedex if I have a set made...but I am leaving on a business trip for 11 days for apple training for my job Wednesday. So essentially I wouldn't be ready to ship until after the first week in October.
On another note, the deluxe GTA door panels are here, so I may be able to make the door speaker pods for those after I get back too.
I'm going to try and make up 5-6 sets to sell at Christmas time to go with the 2nd gen door and kick panels I also make. It's usually cooler enough in October and early November to make up a bunch of these to sell.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
Doing it this way makes it a "one size fits all" for different speaker set ups. Some people might want to use two 6.5" speakers, some a 5-1/4" and a tweeter, or even two 6.5" speakers and a tweeter.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
Ok, got them done...I have three sets molded up waiting to trim and finish. This is what they look like.
I'll sell these for $155 shipped here and $155 + shipping on eBay.

I really don't want to get into cutting the holes, but if I have a the correct bit and you give me the go ahead to cut the holes a certain size (after you pay) I'll be glad to do it.
I'll send you my paypal info, I'll ship tomorrow morning

Payment sent.
Don't worry about cutting them, I am not 100% sure on speakers yet and I want to see them in person before I decide on speaker. Thanks.

I just received mine, let me say I am MORE than impressed.
First thoughts are, super fast shipper, professionally packaged. Then, once I un-boxed them, they are beautiful. They are very light weight, yet sturdy.
- Leaving very positive feed back through the classifieds system, would appreciate the same, thanks!

Good to hear! I may pick up a set in December, but currently working and spending money on transmission issues. I also need to check somethings with the speakers and crossoves I have first. They do look really nice.

Wouldn't let me leave feedback, said this link was invalid, maybe because it's not a classifieds ad?
Also, I was under the impression it would have a cover like yours in the first picture:
Not that I am complaining, I am satisfied, just not sure how to cover my speakers now.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
Unless I am confused, which could be entirely possible, any way you can show me a picture of yours with actual speakers and how you set them up lol
EDIT: NEVER MIND, I OPENED THE BOX AND READ THE SUPPLIED DIRECTIONS!!!!!
You are the man.. I would create a ad in the classifieds since they are done, then I can leave you feed back as well.

On the grill like the first picture mentioned, you have that ability to make yours look like that. Just cover the mdf blank I supplied with speaker grille cloth. It's not hard to do. If you have a red interior for example, you can get white grill cloth and mist it with some sem color coat that matches your interior.
Hope that makes sense
You'll want to cut the holes out for the speakers to poke through first...just use the same bit or method that you use to cut the speaker holes in the pods to cut the same hole in the grill (mdf blank) then wrap with grill cloth.
You can attach them with screws or use grill guides.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
The wood pieces are your grills, once you decide on speakers use the nibs in the panels themselves and the 1/8" holes in the wood pieces to center a hole saw bit. They are located on the same plane so they are drilled offset.
Make the holes for the wood pieces a little larger than the speakers so they can sit flush with the pod. Then wrap the wood pieces with speaker grill cloth.
Like I said to attach them you can use grill snaps like used on home speakers, Velcro, screws or even magnets if they aren't too close to the speakers.
These are kind of one-size fits all pods so you may have to get creative. But if you have any more questions let me know. I hope that's not too confusing.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
This is the best price I could find, 8 "grille snaps" for $2.50. That's 4 per side, I think it should hold well. I also went to the hard ware store and purchased 6 3" long screws to mount these to the door.
I put 2 coats of primer on yesterday, going to do 4 coats of black on them today.

That's cool...those grill snaps will work great.
Three should hold it fine
If you wanted to add a texture to your pods...sem makes a pretty nice texture paint. It will loosely resemble the texture on the upper rails and dash

There will be, I'm going to finish what I have made this weekend. So realistically I'll have them ready to ship Monday.
I'm just making five sets and taking a break from these for a bit.
If you guys are interested, I'll update this thread when I have those done, boxed and ready to ship.

Re: Any interest in Custom fiberglass speaker pods?
I am interested, but where exactly do you drill screws through the pods? It looks like you drilled them in a place where they don't show from the outside?
Also, do you know a safe screw length and safe location to drill holes through the door panel? With power windows. I rather not have to remove/reinstall the door panels to make measurements. I am terrible at removing/reinstalling the 80s-90s GM door panels with those real tight clips at the top. I broke off my black plastic molding that has the run channel on it, on both of my door panels (it's separated from the cardboard door panel). Tried to practice at the junkyard, did the same thing to at least 6 door panels. Took my friend's door's panel off on his 88 Chevy truck and I can't get that top part back on.

You put the screws on the inside around the speakers, the grilles will hide all this.
On the screw length I would take the depth and add 3/4" which should be about 2-1/4" - 2-1/2" long screws
Honestly it's going to be tough doing this without removing the door panels and gaining access to the metal to make sure speaker placement is ok and the screws will actually bite metal when installing these.
You need to have the panels off anyways if you need to trim some of the door panel for magnet clearance. In a rare case, just removing the armrests and lower clips may allow the panel to come out enough to do what you need to do.
It takes some skills and creativity when installing these, not a lot - but some. If your not comfortable removing the door panel these may not be for you to tackle.
But if you can source a local audio or upholstery shop to finish and install these, that might be a good route to look at.

Sent ya a PM and never heard back, if you've changed your mind on these please let me know. Your messages was the initial motivation from here and your eBay message for finishing these. So I assumed you would be jumping on a set when I got them done

BTW: Sorry I ignored your PM. I was wanting to wait to respond until I had the cash to buy the speaker pods. I do have some stuff for sale on feebay; so If I get any of those parts moving I'll try and set some cash aside to buy these. I definitely still want a set.
