How much bass can the rear glass hatch handle?
Looking to put a high spl system in this car - 92 camaro rs t-top v6 - 4 sundown 15s on 2000 watts apiece, with a front end that can keep up, and was just curious on how powerful of a system the glass hatch on the back can handle before it explodes. Obviously im gonna aim the ports away from the hatch, but this is also my daily driver so kinda worried about blowing out the rear. Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I've installed stereos in my cars and others' for personal use and competition... so I speak from experience. Just something to think about.

ive done 147.7 db in mine time and time again without issues , with the ports facing the hatch glass
just tighten down the hatch adjustment so it dont vibrate around
mine is also my daily driver

out of curiosity how much would something like 4 15's and associated box, amps, wire, extra alt, batteries, etc.... weigh. i wouldnt think the f-body would be able to handle all that

when i had my sq/spl competition setup in my car the total wieght was around 550 pounds
if hes getting the 15's i think he is they are 98 pounds each if my memory serves me correctly by the time he builds the enclosures mounts up the extra batteries amp rack etc etc i bet it will be close to 700 pounds

Re: How much bass can the rear glass hatch handle?
opps ones i think he is getting is 68 pounds each speaker
http://www.emfcaraudio.com/sundown-audio-zv4-15-dual-2/
the emf subs are the ones in the 100 pound range
http://www.emfcaraudio.com/emf-audio...erd-15-dual-2/
if i were him id do 2 of the emf 15's instead of 4 of the sundown 15's, 3 15's in an fbody is pushing it with the amount of airspace available
edited for wrong link

not as bad as i was thinking. still have to add springs, shocks, possibly some frame structure for the back, that little engine/trans is not going to be happy either.

Re: How much bass can the rear glass hatch handle?
Yeah rough ballpark weight of around 600lbs, haven't built the enclosures and everything yet, but I don't think it should be too much of an issue, as I'm also getting a lightweight hood and tearing out the rear seats, cutting as much unnecessary weight as possible. Only should need 1 or 2 extra batteries, yellow top deep cycle, and replacing stock alt with a 200amp alt. I don't really care about how badly the weight affects the speed of the car, since the fastest I can go around here is 70 on the freeway anyways, and the extra weight will actually be really handy for those Ohio winters. Thanks for all the information though guys, really helpful!

Re: How much bass can the rear glass hatch handle?
the back seat area is were i had my system , i had 2 bp-12 back there 1 battery 3 amps
if im not mistaken those sa 15's take a fairly large enclosure and i think u will be hard pressed to fit 4 in that area unless u plan on bulding a wall from the roof to the floor.
but even then there isnt enough airspace in the hatch area for 4
deff post up when u start building im curios to see how this comes out, as i have 4 alpine 15's i was toying with the idea of installing , prolly just do 2 though and put the other 2 in the truck

In mine I had 6000 watts 2 12s with 375oz magnets and the box 6k watt amp with a 5 Farid cap on quick connect wires so I could remove the box quickly, but my setup weight in around 200lbs or more. And I would ride around with no problems except new rattles developing I will suggest putting something like silicone on the door jam vent mine would go ballistic in heavy hits along with the ashtray

Re: How much bass can the rear glass hatch handle?
i drove mine the first winter i had it in the snow. i put a few sand bags in the back, no help. it had a lsd and that was no help either, i got stuck in my driveway all the time. snow only has to be an couple inches before the front air dam begins being a plow. between that and the poor viewing angle around snow banks, i got in a wreck. so never again has it seen snow.
