Audio System
My current set up is Boss Audio Chaoss Special Edition speakers with a soundstorm 200w amp for the rear speakers. Sounds good just looking to upgrade. So I planed on gettin http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...s_99-4544.aspx to mount my JVC radio and http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...torm_S7EQ.aspx equalizer. Keeping the 2 channel amp but run http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...zar_VX430.aspx for the front and http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...nce_XS694.aspx for the rear. Then for a subwoofer, use http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...le_PLBW84.aspx with http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...d_PB110PX.aspx 2c amp. Here is all the wiring: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...DBTT-8424.aspx
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...nzar_LQ44.aspx for the main power wire.
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu..._PLMRAKT8.aspx for my second amp.
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...es_ZN1205.aspx for my radio to equalizer.
Will this work for a good system, really don't want to spend over 200$ total

Re: Audio System
Do it right the first time, buy high quality components. The cost difference now between the cheap and the good stuff might not be so large down the road when you're replacing all that flea market crap.

You're not gonna get a good system for less than $200. Pyle and Pyramid are junk, which is why they're stuff is so cheap.

Re: Audio System
Well I just need something to sound good for another year or so, I don't listen to my stereo system very much anyway. I cant see puttin 1000 in a stereo system. I'd rather listen to my exhaust note haha. Soul.justice-what all have you done? Next year the car will be an antique so I'm going to start restoring the car back to original, I just need something to last this year and mayb next, I don't want to spend alot right now. Just make it sound good enough for when I do listen to it

Re: Audio System
Right now I have a Kenwood 4 channel amp feeding the cabin speakers (some base model Kenwood speakers I picked up at a local electronics store til I found something more permanent- I had paper cones before that), each speaker receiving 40W, and a Memphis Car Audio shallow mount 12" DVC sub getting 500W from an Alpine MRP-M500, running off a Sony headunit. Between the 4 channel amp, speakers, and stuff for the sub I bumped right over $900. By the time I'm done I expect to be close to $2000. All it comes down to is what you're willing to spend. You don't have to drop two grand for good tunes to cruise down the road (I'm a bit of an audiophile)- but you WILL have to spend at least $500 or $600. You can get a nice head unit, sub, and amp for right under that. I ran speakers for years right off the head unit before I ever amped them and TBH unless you're looking to get into SPL or SQ setups there is no need for you to get that extensive. If you want more of an idea of getting your feet wet with a sound quality setup, I have a thread going right now detailing my journey into a complete car audio revamp.
If you're wanting to go extensive and do a setup like what you suggested in your first post, get your wallet out. If you buy cheaply made products like Boss you are throwing money into the wind, they may work for a while but they will not last. However if you're looking for the best bang for your buck, LMK and I will do some research for you and suggest a few routes you could take with the smallest budget.

Re: Audio System
If you want to start the building blocks for a decent system under $600, start by getting yourself a 4 channel amp (like the one I use- http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KAC2....html?tp=35782) and use a head unit with decent built-in equalization. I recommend you start with a 4 channel amp, upgrade your speakers (Infinity, Pioneer, Kicker, Precision Power are all good choices) next, and then upgrade to a better head unit.
If you just want some bass, you can go the quick and dirty method- http://www.crutchfield.com/p_108BASS...nk.html?tp=114
Or you can find a "bass package" and build your own box to spec or find someone local who can do it. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700DX25...ge.html?tp=442
Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

I like that basslink. I may go that route, I can build a box, I just do not have the time

Re: Audio System
I have a couple of boss amps in my daily driver... not arguing they are not inexpensive amps, but 4+ years and no problem... but they are matched to the speakers, gains are set right, I know what distortion sounds likes, and the wiring is great for the setup... I've not had one problem with them.
Do they sound as good as a high dollar amp? No, but they fit the bill for the time and when they expire, I'll upgrade...

Awesome, I think for now I'm just gonna leave my system alone. Then put a really really nice system in next year or 2

Re: Audio System
You get what you pay for with car audio. I spent $400 in wiring alone. Glad I did though. You can get away with cheaper equipment but you have to be smart about it and know it won't be as loud or take the abuse a quality system will. Make sure you use big enough wire and make sure you power match you amps and speakers. Peak power ratings are a selling trick for cheap equipment. Find the RMS power rating. A quick way to guesstimate RMS is to multply the fuse amperage x10. I believe crossovers (usually built into the amps these days) are worth there weight in gold. A crossover can take away frequencies the speakers were not made to handle therefore reducing abuse and increasing speaker life. Theres nothing simple about audio. Re: Audio System
you dont always have the most expensive stuff, you can get the economy RF 4ch amp and some 6X9's for 40 and you could bridge 2 ch into a kicker comp and be into a million times better than stock setup for $200

sometimes if you watch the best buy add they have two for one on the kicker speakers i got two for 70

Re: Audio System
Rockford fosgate amps are great. You'll thank yourself if you by power series amps regardless which speaker you use. RF power series amps are what I run. They are way underrated. My t3002 ( 300w X 2) will make 900w RMS. RF sends a "birth sheet" with them showing its test results. My t20001 (2000w X 1) makes 2700 RMS.

Re: Audio System
Thats what I've heard about them. I the power series is the top of line RF, correct? Is all of them underrated or just the power series

Re: Audio System
Power series is top of the line RF. I don't know how the prime or punch is rated. Call or e-mail RF. If you buy a powerful amp, remember you can keep the gains down so you don't fry your speakers. Or you can wire an ohm load that will draw less power. On the other hand don't ever turn your gains all the way up, it can cause clipping.
