4x6 can u go bigger
I was thinking of putting 6.5 in the dash alpine type r with the type r 6x9s and 2 12 type r . I have some week sony 4x6 from wall mart and 2 12s. The 4x6 don't do much when I turn up my sounds a u here is the subs. I think I read somewhere some 1 trying 2 put 6x9s up front but don't know if they did I have a 87 camaro how much fab work will I have to do. I don't want to have my 12s on all the time to hear my music just want the 4 speakers to hit hard so I can hear it clear and when I want to show off or rattle a few windows like NOS with a push of a button I have more bass

Re: 4x6 can u go bigger
I put 6.5 alpines (they were pretty low profile) in a project car I had once. If I remember correctly instead of installing them on top of the 4x6 mounting plate in the dash (like the 4x6 mount), I installed them underneath. Though I don't know how well they sounded as I never got that car on the road, ended up swapping everything over from my brother in laws Camaro, when he got t-boned in the drivers door (it bent the uni-body frame). He had a full aftermarket stereo system (kick panel 6.5 speakers and fiberglass panels). I didn't like this when he got it done years before, because of the intrusion it makes in the foot wells, thus why I attempted to mount the 6.5 in the dash of this project, when I had it. Plus my plans were for a manual tpi set-up and I really think these would have made it difficult to get to the clutch pedal. Anyhow, yes it can be done, it just matters how much depth your 6.5 need.

Kool I didn't want to drop them in and the all bouncing around raddling and what nots funny I don't see it fitting like that but if u said it worked like all other speakers I will do a mock up see how deep the alpine are and get some other 6.5 cheap 1s like some boss for like 10 bucks.

Re: 4x6 can u go bigger
Yeah, like I said they were shallow, with a magnet that was probably no bigger than a stock 6.5 speaker. I'm trying to remember, I think I drilled new holes in the 4x6 factory mounting bracket to attach the speaker. It was tight and they basically rested on the plastic underneath. I wish I'd gotten a chance to listen to them. I have 4x6 pioneer 3-way's, I bought years ago from Best Buy (pioneer unfortunately doesn't make them anymore), but they give me great sound. It's a 4x6 plate with a 2-way 2 or 3 inch speaker and a separate tweeter, for highs. Along with the 3-way pioneer 6x9's when the sub's are off they give great sound, I just have two pioneer 12's in the trunk for some bass, I've found that the factory location just doesn't give you that thump (good for high's and mid's, not low's). Granted I very rarely turn my pioneer radio up above the #10 on the setting (I'm getting old, when it comes to loud music), plus I like listening to the roar of the engine and the exhaust. I did at one time take a 2-way pioneer 4x6 and run a tweeter off of it that I mounted at the top of the A-piler right next to the sunvisor. They sounded good, but I had to put bass blockers on the tweeters (this was my way of making a 3-way). Just some other options.

My heat hardly ever work and I'm not driving it in the winter and it only blow at the window must be a vacuum line or a door suck ether way I not too worried about I thinking about kick panels but they are a little costly the speakers cost enough I might just cut up the bracket or tack weld it to the speakers and skrew it in once I put them in I'm not going to go back in

Infinity 6020cs 6.5" driver in the stock 4x6 location. Did not have to cut up the heater vents. Had to do a slight trim of the back of the instrument cluster to fit the width of the magnet. Not visible from the outside of course. '87 Camaro

U cut the bracket to fit or cut it into peices and weld it

Re: 4x6 can u go bigger
I cut the bracket hole bigger. If I remember correctly I had to cut the two sides completely apart then used a mounting ring that came with the speakers to rejoin the two sides.

You can also mount up to a 6.5" speaker in that area, but it requires a little more work.

Front - I ordered 4" JL speakers with a 4x6 adapter plate.
Rear - 6x9 JL's
I run them all to my 4 channel alpine amp and it sounds great with 1 12" alpine type-s coming off my 2channel jl amp.

No I don't use tweeters, dont need them the way it sounds imho. It's amazing how LOUD and clear it is in my car, with the bass, and outside the car, you barely hear a thing with the windows up.
I love it because cops wont give me a problem if I'm comfortably listening to bass heavy music.

Also, I'm betting your 6x9's have a tweeter in them?
