pics of my Sony Xplode system

just installed Phase 1 of my stereo system. bought the headunit, amp, 4X6's, 6X9's, and 12" subs's on ebay and CL. Then made my own 3/4" MDF box. sounds pretty good but the 6x9's were in pretty bad shape ( bad ebay seller ). Gonna cover the box someday when I install new carpet and fix-up the rear plastics. For now gonna concentrate on other fix-up's. Hopefully I will be updateing soon !

The head unit was also missing the trim piece for the mounting bracket but i am planning on flush mounting it in phase 2.

Re: pics of my Sony Xplode system

i would advise you to use rubber grommets to somewhat isolate the amp from the vibrations of the subs. i have destroyed a couple of amps mounting them directly to the box.

Re: pics of my Sony Xplode system

Just a heads up, alot of people look down on Sony xplodes. So if someone says anything I'd just ignore them. I'm running a fully Sony xplodes set up in my car besides my amp and cap and I can be heard about a block away and can rattle the house windows

I personally have seen alot of amps mounted directly on speaker boxes and have never heard of subwoofer amps going bad from vibrations.

That is why they are a great choice, I could easily spend more on the stereo than I did on the entire car. There is no point putting high end speakers in a 25 year old car that is built for speed. I believe I spent around $180 for the entire system shown.

Re: pics of my Sony Xplode system

That's a pretty decent head unit, I used to have the cassette equivalent. I loved the built in 7 band graphic EQ and 10 disc cd changer controls...only reason i switched is because i wanted USB capability.

Did your front speakers come with the plastic trim that lets you use them on your original speaker frame?

Yep, the speakers bolted right in with no modifications. You can see the trim ring in the first pic they are made to fit many applications.

Did you use the 4x6s or the 6x9s in the front? I'm guessing 4x6 but I wanna make sure.

i have done it twice myself. the heat the amp generates weakens the circuit board connectors for the power wire. one actually grounded out and blew both the fuse on the amp and the one under the hood.

You can see I had to round the rear corners to make it fit snug... I have now bolted it down and it fits completly flush with the rear deck. I am still thinking about how I am gonna finish /cover the box.

I don't see why they wouldn't, they're speakers like every other speaker.

Re: pics of my Sony Xplode system

As with any set up I would want to read it right side up when I opened the hatch. When you open the hatch and find it upside down it just looks a little strange. What do I know, maybe there supposed to be that way ? Other than that I can see that you have put allot of work into it. Good job.

I actually put the amp in like that because the power wire would only reach like that, it was about 2 feet short. I wasn't originally gonna do it that way but have grown to like it.

Ya, I like yours. I am planning on new carpet soon and will finish it and make it a single piece that covers the rear and subs... my plastics need alot of work too.

Re: pics of my Sony Xplode system

Is thebox partitioned or is it shared space? I'm also curious on the internal volume, I like my baffle board for simplicity but you can't beat a sealed enclosure

I don't know who are asking the question to but mine is neither ported nor partitioned, just sealed. The carpet really makes the look nice, removing the seam.

Oh sorry that was to the OP. By partitioned I was referring to if the subs share the air space or if they are seperated by another piece of mdf
