2-10's or 1-12. my 2-10s are not performing
i built the box in the sticky thread for my two 10's and although i dont usually listen to rap type music i do still like to feel my bass a little bit and i'm just not getting much out of my set up. it sounds great and is loud but the bass just isnt there. iv had these same speakers in a hatch box and it was a world of difference. i know i would be but just thought id get a little more. iv tried porting my box and as sealed and pretty much the same results.
my set up is sony 800watt explode amp with dual voice coil 4ohm pheonix gold 10's
i also have a set of hyphonics 12's in my garage. would one of those using that air space sound better then those 10's? or should i try a different style box?
thanks bass speaker gurus

What did you tune the port at?
How much airspace does the 10's/12's call for sealed/ported? And what airspace does the box in the stickys have, like 2.1 total? (not sure)
One good 12 ported would sound nice, but so should two 10's. What model are the pheonixs?
Oh and btw, whats the real rms on that sony xplod amp? I know they're 1400 watt amps actually put out like 200-500 (cant remember exactly) if you look closely.
Hifonics use to make some good bang for the buck amps, Never got into their subs though.

porting requires very specific sizing to sound right and work to its full potential; just adding ports could be hampering the output.
however, there is more cone area to 2 10s than there is to a single 12, so you should be getting more output. Make sure you've got everything wired up correctly (I know, its silly to say, but one out of place wire can be overlooked and make a world of difference).
is the sub amp mono out, bridged, etc?

ok you guys weren't supposed to ask complicated questions lol i know these same speakers sounded great in the hatch back box when i had them in my malibu. theres only a few months of use on them. and they are the "gold" series. so i nee do play with the porting and check the wires? years ago i had the pyle drivers in a truck box sunk down in the well in my camaro and they felt like 15's and these just dont put out the bass at all.

Them look like Phoenix gold ryvals, Did a little digging for you
PG Ryval v10s
150 watts RMS
Single 4ohm
max sealed is 1.15cf
max ported is 2.4cf
Them subs are right for your box (sealed), I wouldn't try to have 2 of them in that small of a box ported.
So i would probably say stay sealed, So now I'm just confused as to why they don't sound as good as you say they use to.
Did you have to set your amp at max gain? or did you have to back it off some?

Re: 2-10's or 1-12. my 2-10s are not performing
ya those are phenix golds and they are dual 4 ohm. i bought those because someone told me i wanted dual 4ohm for better crisp sound for my music genre. the box claimed 600 or 800 watt peak power. ok a list of what i have for options
for amps this is what i have
kenwood kac-821 amp, i think this one is 150 rms
pyramid pb-7360x amp, this one says 1000 watts on it not sure about rms
sony explode xm-zr1252 amp, this one says 800watts peak power.
for speakers i have
2-12 hyphonics. peak power says 600watts
2-10 phenix golds, box said peak power of 600 or 800 watts... cant remember
1-15 super blue, says 700watts peak power
i'm not trying to get you guys to do the homework im just kinda lost on this. i can get all the specs on all these but that doesnt help me if i dont know what the best combo is. please chime in, any advice is appreciated.
oh music genre, i listen to just about everything from the occasional rap to the heavy metal to christian. i usually put my equalizer on the "metal" tune if you know what that looks like.
thanks

You say the speakers are dual 4 ohm. How do you have them wired? Is the amp bridged mono or are you running stereo? That box should be completely sealed with no air leaks.

Ya. That's weird your not getting a lot of deep bass. Or are you, it just doesn't sound right? I only have 1 1w infinity, ( box is made for two, but haven't got another) and my box is smaller. And it puts out waaay two much bass. It makes my door handle shake, rear lights, bumber covers, and I think it makes my ear wax loose , LOL. I need to get less bass

*sigh* now i'm really bummed. cuz i'm not geting nothing for bass like u guys just described. my wiring is as such, on the speaker i have two terminals. i took the positive to positive and the negative to negative then from the speaker to the amp the same way..positive to positive, no bridging. my box is not completely air tight though. so maybe i'll seal it up completely and try it again. if it still doesnt work any suggestions on the combo i should go with from the stuff i have (listed above)?

Although, two 10's are more efficient, you won't hear a difference between two 10's or a single 12.
Take your pick but make it easy on yourself and go with a sealed box.

that Sony looks like it puts out the most RMS, the kenwood is like 140 watts peak, 75 watts rms per channel.
You can try the pyramid lol, But i hate them so much that i wont recommend it. You know in malibus most wanted, where he asks the guy if he has a gamecube or a dreamcast? and the guy says he has a gamecast? Pyramids are like gamecasts lol. They arent much better than a shoebox with "2000 watts" wrote on the top of it lololol im sorry i felt like i was on roll
Gotta ask, i know this is a simple thing but, You didnt use like... 10 gauge power wire or anything right?

I dont know what to tell you man, i wanna help i just cant think what could be wrong. only other thing is you know these are old cars that had bad wiring to begin with.
Upgrading the Big 3 and double checking the ground wire on the amp would make sure the amp is putting out optimal power. If you already had another system in this car though that sounded good, Ignore all this i guess. Hope someone else pops in with some suggestions

What you always want to look at is the "RMS" that would be the constant power a speaker is receiving.

Ported boxes need to be done right, and actually have a port.
Glad you fixed it though.

sealed boxes sound so much better in 3rd gens, back in high school I use to run 3-12's JL w-6 in a sealed box and it was the talk and it was heard around school
