My Audio System

How do you think this sound: JBL 5x7 woofer/tweeter component set and JBL 6.5 3 way center for the dash (Both GTO Series). A 6.5 in Kicker sub in the door and a Kicker 5 & 1/4 woofer/tweeter component set (KS Series) in the kick panels. JBL GTO 6x9 3 ways in the sail panels. Kicker 10" subs and and 6 & 1/2 in KS series woofer/tweeter component sets in the rear well area. Gonna run 3 JBL GTO 600 watt 4 channel amps and a JBL GTO 700 watt monoblock amp

Re: My Audio System

that is waaaaaaay too many speakers to be installing and will make tuning correctly impossibly. keep it simple; components in the kicks, sub in the hatch, and something in the b pillars for rear fill.

what is your end goal and what is your budget?

Re: My Audio System

less is more if you're trying to sound good or compete; get a quality set of components in the kick panel, a good sub, a good deck with some eq and crossover adjustments, and amp everything. too many different speakers in different locations destroys the sound stage and will not sound good.

quality parts tuned right will sound 100x better than a large quantity of cheap parts

Re: My Audio System

Im with Dan on this one. I spent about 150 dollars on my audio system. I have 2 Alpine 4x6's in the dash, 2 alpines in the sail panels,2 midbass Legacy speakers in the Sail panels, and 2 MB quart subs in the rear.It sounds amazing

Forget the dash speakers.

When it comes to sound quality systems LESS is more.

In my systems I run a pair of front speakers (usually a component set), and a sub or two, along with either a 4 channel or two amps, one being dedicated to the front speakers and one being dedicated to the sub.

I just installed a very simple system, in a friend's '66 Mustang, that consists of a pioneer 5.25" component set, two Phoenix Gold Xenon 10s, and two Phoenix Gold amps, one being dedicated to each set of speakers.

It sounded PHENOMENAL! I spent a LOT of time shaping the kicks to try and get a sort of horn/guided effect and it seemed to have paid off. The subs are in simple sealed enclosures, and a single CD deck is the source. Simple system with good construction techniques, and thought out placement, and integration is key.

Unless you're going to have proper processing to process both the center channel and the front speakers, I wouldn't add a center channel.

I would also personally nix the rear speakers, or at the very least NOT install them in the sail panels/B-pillars, since they will end up closer to your ears than the front speakers, which means you will hear them first and pull the stage rearward.

If I really needed to install rear speakers I would move them as far back as I could. This increases the distance to your ears, and the time it takes for the sound to reach your ears. This will also help create a larger sounding venue, giving a greater front stage.

Re: My Audio System

I agree with six_shooter. Less is more.

How about a 6.5" comp set with the tweeter in the a-pillar, mids in the kick or door and subs in the back.

Fairly classic setup.

Re: My Audio System

I would keep the tweeters closer to the mids, in the kickpanels myself.

Re: My Audio System

there were a couple guys a few years back that made kick panel enclosures for our cars, if there are any sets in the classified ads, grab em (thats what i did). they're much beefier than the qlogic ones, but those can be good with a little fiberglass on the backs. a throw components in there, forget the dash. a good sub and a 4 channel amp is a great start. leave the rears to run off deck power. get a good deck with 2-3 sets of preouts and whatever features you want (mp3 is great for convenience, eq/time alignment/crossover adjustments are great for tuning). i loved my pioneer prs880, regret selling it
