Steering wheel controls aftermarket adapter???

I have a 88 GTA And dont have the stock radio. I was wondering if i can get an adapter that will let me control the radio with the steering wheel buttoms? I know a buddy that has a 2002 Trans Am and has an adapter to make his buttoms functional. Is there any adapters that will work? Thanks in advance!!

Re: Steering wheel controls aftermarket adapter???

There are several companies that make adaptors for out steering wheel controls. pac is one of them. Most of them work with pioneer, alpine, kenwood and sony head units (Though not many people own sony head units anymore.) Look on ebay, I saw some on there for around $20.oo a few weeks ago.

Re: Steering wheel controls aftermarket adapter???

Okay, so I'm trying to read up on this found the PAC website, but the earliest they go for our cars is 1990, which is oddly enough when the Airbags were introduced so the controls would have gone away.

Anyone point in the right direction? I'd love to get my wheel controls working.

The closest I've found so far is this: http://www.pac-audio.com/productSear...&CategoryId=29

But that doesn't say if they will correctly interface with my GTA's controls. And the 1990 model year thing is throwing me off as the controls disappeared in place of an airbag wheel.

use the SWIRC, you dont have the option to flash the controls to the interface without a special part from PAC, no big deal because 99% of the time i manually program them because the flash tool blows. pick your radio (kenwoods are simple as hell) and then go to pac-audio.com/SWI/ enter in the required info and it gives you step by step instructions how to wire and how to program it, takes a whole extra 10 mins to add to a deck install. The hqrdest part is programing, they follow a sequence that covers all SWC setups, so say theres 10 "channels" #1 being vol up, 2 being vol down, 3 being track up etc etc you go through and press your vol up button for number one, then the swirc will blink saying its learned that, follow the sequence they give you and if you dont have a certain button you push the program button on the swirc to skip that when youve made it through all ten it will flash x number of times depending on what program version you flashed to it before the sequence (pac tells you exactly which version number you need and where to set the rotary switch)

its cake.

good luck!

Re: Steering wheel controls aftermarket adapter???

The remote wire is irrelevant here. It needs a swc wire or in some cases the compatible 3.5mm jvc uses. Go to the pac site and look up the part, most any radio will run the pac piece
