Re: flat subwoofers

the only ones i can recommend are the rockford p3s 10"s. they are about 3 inches deep
and i have used them in several customer cars(10 or so).
rec air space is .4 cf.
the p3s12's are probably good as well but i haven't used them

Re: flat subwoofers

is there a particular reason you want a shallow mount sub? Normally id only suggest putting them in only when there is a specific need, i mean its still a sub but with the shallow mounts you sacrafice the excursion of the woofer, so youre getting a weaker speaker to make it simple (theres a lot more involved thats just the gist)

If you really want to go ahead with it i have had excellent experience with Alpines new shallow type R, we got some in the store and i set them up in the sound room, you can barely tell that its a shallow mount, side by side with the original type R its pretty darn close to it, so if you want the sound and the size id suggest that route

The new type r's r rly good, my friend just put one in his '92 rs. Ive had 2 alpine type s's for a few months and they can definitly slam if you want them to.

They might be a really good option if you are going to use them in the rear storage area....

the reason i want to get shallow mount sub is because i want to put it in the spare tire well

Re: flat subwoofers

then id look at the type R shallow subs, are you building a MDF box for the spare well or are you gonna use fiberglass?

Re: flat subwoofers

hey man, I can personally recommend a setup. I used two 10" Shallow Mount Pioneers, and a power accustic amp. 220Watts RMS. I really like them, but I don't like insane amounts of base, I just like to hear it over the road noise and my glasspacks. I like 80's rock, so the base line is pretty important to me I've attached a couple of pics...

Each woofer is actually in a seperate box, with an empty space in the middle for the amp. The box is REALLY BAD. But I didn't really have the tools on hand at the time...

Re: flat subwoofers

the 12" Stereo Integrity BM MKIII is outright amazing! I put one in my Tundra and love it. There are 2 problems though:

1. they are on backorder (this is the 2nd/3rd try)

2. it might not fit in the spare tire area

Oh, and I should clarify, the woofers and amp are 220Watts RMS EACH, the amp is 2-channel at 220Watts apiece...

Re: flat subwoofers

Where do you put the spare?I made my mount using the original lid.Even drilled a hole to retain the lock.Salvaged a hinge from a busted lid at the JY.Not exactly flat subs, free air actually,Cerwin Vega (circa 1988).

Re: flat subwoofers

we set up more baffle boards for camaros than anything really, 4th gens mostly, you can glass a box for the well and do it that way, orrr you can put it in your cargo area on the opposite side we did one of those too, if you want space and still have a good setup you can either do a lower baffle board where it sits on the side humps down low, or you can just build a box that height, and again the third route would be fiberglass and then make it your own height and stuff but if you wanna go for the spare tire then go for it, make sure you have it sealed up though ive seen a few people go thru all the trouble of making a box for the spare tire well just to have moisture buildup take out their connectors and such

check hifisoundconnection.com for the spare tire box

Re: flat subwoofers

i never got a chance to snap pictures of it, but heres a link to Hifi's site, this one is for a 4th gen but its the same concept, you build a box that will fit in the area and then use an aditional piece of mdf board to make a trim for it pretty much, if youre handy with fiber glass you could make a cover for it that looks like the factory trim panels, just mold it to the shape and then do your sanding and finishing work on it, we used mdf all the way around and just did some cutting on the one we did, we just made the spare tire spot a sub/ cubby spot like on the driver side also if youre gonna use a sub that requires more air space than the box you build can give you can always put "stuff" in it to trick the sub into thinking its got more space than it really does, cheap trick we've used in the past when people wont give on their choices lol

here's the link : http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/S...id/0/SFV/30046

if i get another box like that ill take pics and post them up lol i did however get a chance to work on a 5th gen today, theyre awesome with a RF sub except their trunk lid rattles like a SOB without dynamat

Re: flat subwoofers

Yeah, I was talking about the "Cubby" area. I've seen the spare tire one. I cant afford to lose the spare tire. I dont fancy takin an 8 mile walk in 120 degree heat to get my spare! LOL!

Re: flat subwoofers

Sorry to say but Type R subs are garbage! The Sound quality is horrible! Now if you want a good flat sub go with JL Audios Flat sub !

Re: flat subwoofers

Diamond Audio also makes a flat sub although i have never heard it. I dunno about you guys but JL Audio is knows for its subs and amps id personally go with the company who is known for bad *** equipment over Alpine or Pioneer who are more known for their decks then anything. I have personally heard the JL Flat sub in a BMW. He had the JL flat sub running of a JL Audio HD750/1 and it sounded amazing!

Have a look at Stereo Integrity MKIII. It is TRULY a great shallow 12" sub.

Polk Audio MM1040 is fairly flat that has great sound and provides LOTS of movement.
